104 <br />May 12, 1950 <br />Board of Public Works and Safety <br />City of South Bend <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Re: Petition objecting to the <br />proposed change in the Portage Avenue <br />Bus line and suggesting several <br />alternate routes. <br />. <br />Gentlemen: <br />The primary purpose for the extension of the,Portage .Avenue bus line north to Lath- <br />rop Avenue was to serve the new "Pin Hook Manor" addition. <br />Since this can be accomplished just as well by the use of the lst proposed alternate <br />route of the petitioners I see no reason for not going along with their request. <br />The extended route would then be east on Oakwood to Hollywood; north on Hollywood to <br />Lathrop; west on Lathrop to Inglewood; south on Inglewood to Oakwood;.then west on Oa.kwoo <br />to Portage. <br />,Very truly yours, <br />Signed: Ernest H. Barnes. <br />Excavation Bonds were approved and ordered filed for Tony Szymkowiak and Harold H. <br />Scha.nfa.ld. <br />A petition to improve Grant Street from Indiana Avenue to Prairie Avenue by the con-1 <br />struction of a sewer was referred to the City Eng-ineer. <br />j <br />A petition to improve 33rd Street from !Mishawaka Avenue to Pleasant Street by the c <br />struction of a pavement was referred to the City Engineer. <br />A petition to improve Kendall Street from Calvert Street to Donald Street by the con' <br />struction of a. pavement was referred to the City Engineer,, <br />• <br />Mr. Aaron Huguenard and Mr. .Albert IicGann appeared before the Board to present a pe- <br />tition by the Grand Trunk Building Corporation seeking permission to remove a portion of <br />the curb on Columbia Street and construct a concrete slab in front of a building to be usEld <br />as a warehouse for Sears Roebuck and Company. Permission was granted with the stipulation <br />that this driveway is intended to be used for customer service drive-in only and not to <br />be used for a freight loading or unloading drive. <br />A Contract was signed between the Board of Public Works and the Reed Construction <br />Company for the construction of a pavement on Thirty -Sixth Street from the north line of <br />Mishawaka Avenue to the south line of the Grand Trunk Railway Right-of-way. <br />CONTRACTORS COMPLETION AFFIDAVIT <br />3T.ATE OF INDIANA ) <br />) SS: <br />3T.
