104 May 12, 1950 Board of Public Works and Safety City of South Bend South Bend, Indiana Re: Petition objecting to the proposed change in the Portage Avenue Bus line and suggesting several alternate routes. . Gentlemen: The primary purpose for the extension of the,Portage .Avenue bus line north to Lath- rop Avenue was to serve the new "Pin Hook Manor" addition. Since this can be accomplished just as well by the use of the lst proposed alternate route of the petitioners I see no reason for not going along with their request. The extended route would then be east on Oakwood to Hollywood; north on Hollywood to Lathrop; west on Lathrop to Inglewood; south on Inglewood to Oakwood;.then west on Oa.kwoo to Portage. ,Very truly yours, Signed: Ernest H. A petition to improve Kendall Street from Calvert Street to Donald Street by the con' struction of a. pavement was referred to the City Engineer,, • Mr. Aaron Huguenard and Mr. .Albert IicGann appeared before the Board to present a pe- tition by the Grand Trunk Building Corporation seeking permission to remove a portion of the curb on Columbia Street and construct a concrete slab in front of a building to be usEld as a warehouse for Sears Roebuck and Company. Permission was granted with the stipulation that this driveway is intended to be used for customer service drive-in only and not to be used for a freight loading or unloading drive. A Contract was signed between the Board of Public Works and the Reed Construction Company for the construction of a pavement on Thirty -Sixth Street from the north line of Mishawaka Avenue to the south line of the Grand Trunk Railway Right-of-way.
