Vennet <br />50.00 <br />TRAFFIC DEPARTi�1ENT: Mr. Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters per- <br />taining to his department were discussed. <br />The Board now reviews the record and findings as of the meeting of April 41 1949 <br />with regard to playground�priveleges in the 1400 bloc'_ marine Street and it is the judge- <br />ment of the Board to rescind said findings and playground priveleges hereforeto extended <br />will be withdrawn. Mr. Miller was instructed to take down the barricades now blocking <br />the street and to notify Mr. Stephen J. Tsalikis of the Board's findings. <br />TAXI CABS:. <br />In regard to taxi -cab driver, Joseph Binder: <br />Joseph Binder having been notified twice to appear before the Board to show cause <br />why his taxi -cab parking station privelege should not be revoked and the said Joseph <br />Binder not appearing before said Board, but being represented by City Judge Kowalski, <br />the Board, after due deliberation, finds that the parking space alloted to the said <br />Joseph Binder located at 127 North Main Street, South Bend, Indiana, should be cancelled <br />and revoked for the reason that the said Joseph Binder has not occupied said space and <br />given service to the public within the purview of the ordinance governing such locations, <br />and the provisions and regulations made by the said Board of Public <br />It is therefore adjudged that such taxi -cab parking space at said location be forth- <br />with vacated, and metered for the convenience of the public. <br />This action of the Board was suggested and concurred in by. the Mayor. <br />A letter was sent to Joseph Binder informing him of the action of the Board. <br />A letter was sent to the South Bend Cab Company, 710 N. Niles Avenue directing <br />them to have a renreTsentative of their Company appear before the Board at their meeting <br />on October 10, 19tFq between the hours of 10:30 and noon to discuss their practice of <br />parking or using the parking space alloted -to the Veteran's Cab Company located in front <br />of the Odd Fellows Building on South Main Street. <br />A letter was sent to the Veteran's Chb Company asking that a representative of the <br />Company appear before the Board at their meeting on October 10, 1949, between the hours <br />of 10:30 and noon to show cause why one of the parking spaces alloted to them in front <br />of the Odd Fellows Building should not be eliminated. <br />GARBAGE DISPOSAL: <br />The Clerk of the Board was directed to advertise for sealed proposals for the collect- <br />ion and disposal of garbage in the City of South Bend. Said proposals to be received 11 <br />until 11:00 A. T-4. on October 24, 1949. Specifications for said collection and disposal„ <br />of garbage were approved by the Board and placed on file. <br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: <br />Contractor's Bonds in the amount of ti?1,000 were approved and ordered filed for <br />Edmund S. Cytacki and Howard G. Rogers. <br />A petition was received asking that the alley between Bryan and Deale Streets be <br />opened to the public use. This was referred to the City Engineer. <br />The Board approved the plans for a canopy on a commercial building at 709 S.
