<br />A regular meeting of the Board ,of Public Works was held Monday, .Au Bust 22, 1949 at
<br />9:00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and
<br />approved. Salary claims in the amount of $25,438.15 were approved. Claims of the follo
<br />ing suppliers in the amount of $10,275 were approved and ordered paid:
<br />TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT; _Mr. Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer was present and matters pertain
<br />ing to his department were discussed.
<br />SEWAGE DISPOSAL:

<br />A letter was received from Consoer, Townsend.and Associates indicating that they
<br />had requested the successful bidders on the Intercepter Sewers to proceed with the work.
<br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT:
<br />Contractor's Bonds in the amount of $1,000.00 were approved and ordered filed for
<br />Woltma.n Brothers and the Taylor Construction Company, Inc.
<br />The First Presbyterian Church and the Indiana Club were granted permission to erect
<br />a canopy over their enterances on September 10, 191+9 for one day only.
<br />VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2596
<br />This being the date set, hearing was held on the resolution heretofore adopted by
<br />the Board of Public Works for the vacation of Part of Alley blest of Vernon Street from
<br />Dubail Avenue North a distance of 114 feet under Vacation Resolution No. 2596. The
<br />Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication and no remonstrators
<br />having appeared and no written remonstrances having been filed with the Clerk, it was
<br />moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the said resolution be finally adopted and
<br />the said alley be vacated. The Engineering Department is directed to prepare an assess-
<br />ment roll covering the assessment of benefits and the award of damages to the surroundin
<br />properties.

<br />Be It Resolved, By the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend,
<br />Indiana, that the Final Estimate, and Primary or Preliminary Assessment Roll bubmitted
<br />to the Board by the City Civil Engineer or his duly authorized representative on this
<br />22nd day of August, 1949, on the improvement known as the O'BRIEN STREET paving as des-
<br />cribed in Improvement Resolution No. 2567, 1948, adopted by the Board of Public Works
<br />and Safety on August 9, 191+81 be and the same is hereby adopted and the Clerk of this
<br />Board is hereby requested to give notice of the hearing of Special Benefits on said
<br />Improvement, as required by Section N.111 or 120 of an Act entitled, "An Act Concerning
<br />Municipal Corporations" Approved March 6, 1905.

<br />Notice is hereby given, that the following Street Improvement has been completed.
<br />The general character of the Improvement, the street, alley, or public place on which it h
<br />been made, and the terminal points thereof, are as follows: O'BRIEN STREET from the north
<br />line of Washington Street to the north property line of Lots 11 & 13 in Wheeler's Sub-
<br />division by draining, grading and paving the roadway with a Class "C" Type Four (4) Com-
<br />pacted Aggregate Base, Bituminous Concrete Surface Pavement .
<br />There is on file in the office of the City Controller of said City an assessment
<br />roll with the names of the owners and description of property subject to be assessed with;
<br />the amount of the prima facia assessment, and can be seen in the office of said City
<br />Controller.
