555 <br />Northern Indiana Transit, Inc., to inaugurate bus <br />service to Bendix Field -St. Joseph County Airport <br />beginning Saturday, June 4, 1949, between the hours <br />of 7:00 A. 14. and 9:00 A. M. and 4:00 P. M. to 6:00 <br />P. M. on a trial basis. <br />During the week from June 18 to June 24,.in- <br />clusive, 1949, a count of passengers handled on the <br />line gave a result of 101. The mileage operated was <br />The bus mile of <br />336 miles/ cost of operation pper <br />Northern Indiana Transit is 400. 400 times 335 give <br />a result of $134.40 less $15.15 income equals $118.90 a loss <br />for that week's operation, <br />The patronage on the line does not justify its contin- <br />uance, therefore, the Northern Indiana Transit rspectfully <br />petitions your Honorable Body for the discontinuance of this <br />operation on Friday, July 22, 1949. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />• <br />s/ R. Smith <br />President <br />The Board granted said petition_. <br />I ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: <br />Contractor's Bond in the amount of $1,000 were approved and ordered filed for S-L-A-B <br />Construction Company, Inc, Casimer Jerzakowski and Benjamin Brothers, Melvin L. Green. <br />An Excavation Bond in the amount of $5,000.00 was approved and ordered filed for the <br />Chicago, South Shore and South Bend Railroad Company. <br />i <br />• The Board approved a plat of Section 1 of Belleville Unit "A" addition to the City <br />of South Bend. This is on file in the Board of Works and recorded in the Recorder's <br />Office of St. Joseph County in Book 17, Page "B". <br />I ' The Board directed that letters be sent to Thomas Lunce, Owner and Harry Folkm <br />Operator of a dump located at 1324 South Bend Avenue informing them that a Resolution <br />had been passed by the Board of Public Works and Safety whereby all dumping of any kind <br />or nature at the above located dump must be stopped immediately. This resolution was <br />enacted as an emergency measure. B6th men were notified to appear before the Board <br />on July 25, 1949 at 11:00 o'clock A. M. At which time the Board will consider the man- <br />agement of the dump and the terms and conditions upon which further dumping will be <br />• permitted. <br />RESOLUTION ADOPTING FINAL ASSESSMENT <br />ROLL <br />No. 2571, 1948 <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />July 181 1949 <br />Be It Resolved, By the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, that the Primary or Preliminary Assessment Roll adopted by the Board on the 5th <br />day of July, 1949, for the improvement of LIBERTY STREET from south line of Western Ave- <br />nue to north line of Sample Street by draining, grading and paving the roadway with a <br />Class "C" Type Four°(4) Pavement, be and the same is in all things confirmed. <br />R. Reed who being duly <br />sworn upon oath deposes and says he is acquainted with the Reed Construction Company the <br />' party to whom was awarded the contract and who performed the work under Improvement Res- <br />olution No. 2 575; 1948. <br />. That he is familiar with and personally knows the requirements of the plans and <br />specifications of said improvement resolution and further knows that the said Reed Cons <br />ruction Company in the performance of said work complied with all the terms and conditi <br />of said plans and specifications in every particular, and that the material used was of <br />the character, kind, quantity and quality required therein and according to and under <br />• the direction of the Board of Public Works and Safety. <br />s/ Virgil H.
