507 <br />May 23, 191+9 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, May 23, 1949 at <br />9:00 A. M. All members were present. Indiana Bell Telephone Co 6.75 �+ <br />TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT:____Mr,-Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters per - <br />Raining to his department were discussed. <br />The Traffic Engineer requested permission to install four way stop signs on an ex- <br />• 1permintal babis at the following street intersections: Ewing and Main Streets, Ewing and! <br />Fellows Street; Ewing and Miami Streets and Ewing and Twykenham Streets. The Board ap- II <br />proved the installations and if they prove satisfactory they will be retained. <br />RAILROADS'. <br />The board directed that a letter be sent to W. L. Dayton, Signal Engineer, of the j <br />Grand Trunk Western Rail Road instructing the Rail Raod that pursuant to the unanimous <br />lagreement of the Board the Grand Trunk Western Railroad is asked to erect a short arm j <br />automatic gate at the grade crossing at Ironwood Drive. <br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT l <br />• An Excavation Bond in the amount of $2,000.00 was approved and ordered filed for <br />JJ, A. Currie. <br />Contractor's Bond in the amount of $1,000.00 was approved and ordered filed for <br />Herron Murray, Francis Snider, K & K. Construction Company, John F. Brooks and George, <br />Solomon, and Howard D. Taylor. <br />A petition to vacate and alley west of Vernon Street was filed by the Whitcomb and <br />Keller Company, Inc., was referred to the City Plan Commission for investigation and <br />report, <br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION <br />No. 2%5, 191+9 <br />For the improvement of Stanfield Street under Improvement Resolution No. 2585, 1949, <br />dopted April 25, 1949, from the South line of Howard Street to the North line of Corby <br />treet by draining, grading and paving the roadway with a Class C Pavement, Types One (1) <br />to Five (5) inclusive. <br />After hearing all persons interested who appeared and being fully advised in the <br />remises, the Board decides that the benefits to the property liavle to be assessed for <br />• said improvement are equal to the estimated cost of the same as reported by the City <br />,civil Engineer. Therefore <br />Be It Resolved, By the Board of Public Workd and Safety of the City of South Bend, <br />ndiana, that Improvement Resolution No. 2585, 1949, duly passed by this Board on April <br />51 191+9 for the above improvement,,.be and the -same is hereby in all things confirmed <br />nd the improvement is hereby ordered to be made. <br />R.
