I� <br />it AT <br />• v Clerk <br />AR F PUBLIC ti"' RKS, <br />s <br />July 28, 1947, <br />I A regular meeting of the Board of Public I'aorks was held on Monday, July 28, <br />1947 at 8:30 A,Id, All members were present. IvTinutes of the last meeting were <br />read and approved, Salary claims in the amount of �18,452,94 were approved and <br />ordered paid. There iere no claims of suppliers to be approved. <br />. TRAFFIC DEPARTI+tIENT: Mr. Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters <br />pertaining to his.department were discussed. <br />TAM -CABS: Six members of the Veterans Taxi -cab Company, represented by IIr. And- <br />erson Million, came before the Board to ask for an addition two -cab stand in order <br />that they may serve the .public better and also requested free entrance to the <br />cab stands at the South Shore Station, the Bus Station and that part of the cab <br />stand at the union Railroad Station which is in the Street. No action was taken, <br />the Board wished to discuss the matter with Iilr. Ernest Miller, Traffic :engineer. <br />I`NG INEL'RING DEPARTIMT: Contractor's bonds in the amount of 01, 000.00 each were <br />approved and ordered filed for Leo A. Lippman, Rudolph P. Vrabel, Clarence W. <br />• Hushower and Strohm Construction Company. <br />An excavation bond was approved and ordered filed for the Burton Construction <br />Company. <br />• <br />• <br />40 <br />0 <br />Rieth-Riley Construction Company presented a maintanence bond for a period of <br />one year, for the Hamilton Street pavement, which was approved by the Board. <br />A letter was received from v'hitcomb & Keller asking permission to construct <br />a sidewalk at the intersection of East Washington Street and Ellsworth Place. The <br />Board discussed the matter.and decided to refer it to the City Plan Commission. <br />STREET DEPARTI 'IT: Ialr. Casimer Balka, Street Commissioner, was present and matters <br />pertaining to his department were discussed. <br />The Board approved the closing of Chapin Street between Bruce and Calvert <br />Streets on.August 2, 1947 from 2 until 12 P.Iv% for Our Lady of Hungary Church. <br />Mr. Bird, representing the 4 H Clubs of St. Joseph County, came before the <br />Board to ask permission to place posters advertising the Fair on lamp posts on <br />the city streets. Inasmuch as the Board deemed the Fair an educational e.Yhibit, <br />the request was granted. <br />C.EI ETERY 'DEPARTIBEI N': IIr.
