ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Petitions were received by property owners on Kendall Street between Ewing and Calvert Street, and presented.by Walter Arnold, asking that Kendall street be paved. These petitions were referred to the Engineering Depar-ment.for inves Ligation and report. A report is to be made to Mr. Arnold of the necessary engineering data for improvements. This being the date set for receiving bids for the collection of garbage in the City of South Bend, and it now being 10:00 A.M`.,, the time set for opening the bids, Mr,.Williams apened the bid presented by Mr. Frank Palmer, representing Blue Lines, Inc. Once a week collection during.the entire year, the amount of ,$41,916.00; once.a week. for -the year excepting during the months of July, August and September, when there will ba a bi-:nreekly collection, for the amount of $4,500.00 additional. After the opening of the bid, it was indicated that an error had been made in setting down the amount and thebide for for once a week collection was changed by the bidder in writing to $41,626. The 3oard took the matter under advisement for decision on or before August 14, 1944, TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: Mr. Ernest H. Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters pertaining to his.department were discussed. CEMETERY DEPARTMENT:: Mr. Stanley Leszczynski, Sexton, was present and matters pertain- ing to his department were discussed. There being no further busincess to come before at 10:30 A.M. All members were present. Yinittes of the last me ting were read and approved. Salary claims in the amount of �p9,333.33 were approved a paid. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: This being the date set, hearing was held on the assessment rol showing the award of damages and the assessment of benefits in the matter of the vaca- tion.of the alley between Jennings Avenue and Dean Street from South Michigan westward to the North -South alley between Michigan and Main Streets, under vacation resolution No. .2528. . In the above assessment roll, no remonstrators appeared and no written remonstrance were filed, the Clerk of the Board ssubmitted proofs of publication of notices and same were found sufficient, and the Board, being fully advised in .the premises, therefore finds that the several lots and parcels of land .have been benefitted and damaged in the amounts shown on said roll. The Board, therefore, decides to take .action on said assess merit- roll, and declares same in all things ratified, confirmed and approved without modification and the- proceedings closed, and the.alley vacated upon receipt of the amount of benefit assessments from the various property owners so benefitted and all proceedings had with reference to said alley vacation are.hereby sustained. GARBAGE DEPARTMENT: No decision having been reached in the matter of the garbage con- tract the matter was again taken under advisement. TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: Mr. Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters per- taining to his department were discussed. CETZETARY DEPARTMENT: Mr. Stanley Leszczynski, Sexton, was present and matters pertain- ing to his department were discussed.
