Page 1 <br /> 2016 ANNUAL REPORT <br /> I. Public Works Mission Statement: <br /> Our mission is to Build the Foundation for a Thriving City. We achieve this by: <br /> - Providing essential household services; <br /> - Developing sustainable assets and infrastructure; and <br /> - Enhancing the community's quality of life. <br /> II. Department Structure <br /> In 2016 the Department of Public Works conducted its business within six separate and distinct <br /> teams: Sustainability, Streets &Sewers, Engineering, Utilities, Solid Waste and Central Services. <br /> The Utilities Division combines the former Water and Waste Water Divisions to create one office <br /> with greater efficiency in internal operations and services to the residents and businesses of South <br /> Bend. <br /> A new position created for the 2017 budget was the Director of Redevelopment Engineering.This <br /> allows one Engineer to focus solely on Redevelopment projects and provide faster response times <br /> to businesses willing to invest in the city.
