I. Continued 7. Feasibility report was prepared relative to the public acquisition of bus system. As a result of this report, the South Bend Transportation Corporation has been established according to state statutes and the bus system has been acquired. A comprehensive transportation study is underway as part of the total planning program. Street improvements , including relocations , vacations or the develop- ment of new streets are submitted to the Plan Commission for review and report. The Plan Commission staff was consultant relative to physical plant location by the local School Corporation in the development of their major reorganiza- tion plan. This program and the reuse of abandoned school sites will be eval- uated as part of the comprehensive plan now being formulated. In summary the Plan Commission and its staff have been accepted as part of the day to day operation of gevernment and are consulted by various city depart- ments , the Mayor and Council prior to decisions related to physical develop- ment. The Plan Co=ission in addition has established a working relationship with non-profit agencies throught the comununity including the Chamber of Commerce and United Community Services (planning arm of the United Fund. Such an ap- proach assures the right balance between physical, social and economic pro- grams.
