I. Continued <br /> 7. Feasibility report was prepared relative to the public acquisition of bus <br /> system. <br /> As a result of this report, the South Bend Transportation Corporation has <br /> been established according to state statutes and the bus system has been <br /> acquired. <br /> A comprehensive transportation study is underway as part of the total planning <br /> program. Street improvements , including relocations , vacations or the develop- <br /> ment of new streets are submitted to the Plan Commission for review and report. <br /> The Plan Commission staff was consultant relative to physical plant location <br /> by the local School Corporation in the development of their major reorganiza- <br /> tion plan. This program and the reuse of abandoned school sites will be eval- <br /> uated as part of the comprehensive plan now being formulated. <br /> In summary the Plan Commission and its staff have been accepted as part of the <br /> day to day operation of gevernment and are consulted by various city depart- <br /> ments , the Mayor and Council prior to decisions related to physical develop- <br /> ment. <br /> The Plan Co=ission in addition has established a working relationship with <br /> non-profit agencies throught the comununity including the Chamber of Commerce <br /> and United Community Services (planning arm of the United Fund. Such an ap- <br /> proach assures the right balance between physical, social and economic pro- <br /> grams. <br />
