Attachment B: Safety
All employees go through 8 hours of specialized training before they begin working in
the field. They are each given the safety handout below and are required to follow all
the procedures.
GI Safety Procedures
1. Use protective eyewear and earplugs at all times while mowing.
2. Wear GI shirts, long pants, and close toed shoes at all times while mowing.
3. Walk the lot and look for rocks, trash, branches, etc before mowing.
4. Do not put gasoline or oil in machinery unless accompanied by a supervisor.
5. Keep hands, feet and face away from blade of mower at all times.
6. Do not operate any machinery unless you have been properly trained by a
supervisor.
7. Operate mowers at a speed that is moderate and comfortable. Work efficiently,
but don't go as fast as the mower goes just to get done as fast as you can!
8. Be extremely careful when operating machinery on hills. Always try to go
perpendicular (up and down the hill -- not side to side) when operating on STEEP
hills rather than horizontally.
9. Be extra cautious when operating machinery around cars, close to houses, and
people as objects can shoot out at any time and damage property or be
extremely harmful to people. Stop (disengage the blade) when you are mowing
close to a road/sidewalk and cars/people are approaching.
10. Make sure the blades are disengaged when you are not in proper mowing
position.
11. Do not continue to operate machinery if mower is smoking or making abnormal
sounds.
12. Report any and all injuries to supervisor immediately.
'Employees will be able to operate equipment, thus work more hours based on how
he/she follows the safety procedures below.
