Animal Control Commission Minutes February 7, 2017 6:30 p.m. <br />Commission Members Present: Betsy Culp, Ernest Galos, Rebecca Kaiser, <br />Barbara Leavell <br />Citizen Members Present: Bill Sykes, other unidentified persons <br />Council Members Present: None <br />City Staff Present: Jen Gobel, SBACC; Randy Wilkerson, Code <br />Enforcement; Stephanie Steele, Assistant City <br />Attorney <br />Agenda: Meeting called to Order at 6:34 p.m. The <br />meeting agenda modified to add hearing regarding Melissa Bialko's St. Bernard at <br />7:00 p.m. Rebecca Kaiser wanted to add items to proposed minutes of January <br />meeting. Ernest Galos indicates his belief that the items she referred to were <br />mentioned in December minutes. He indicated he would review previous minutes to <br />see if additions need to be made to December minutes. January minutes approved <br />unanimously. <br />St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 18, 2017 mentioned by Rebecca Kaiser. <br />Checking to see if rescues will join. Will ask Heartland and Pet Refuge to <br />participate. Will address problems of dogs already adopted participating. Ms. <br />Kaiser mentioned need for a trailer possibly for purchase. <br />Jenn Gobel provided intake and outgo information to compare to previous <br />year. Intakes down :94 animals consisting of 66 dogs 28 cats in Jan 2017 versus; 74 <br />dogs 43 cats in Jan, 2016. Adoptions were 28 dogs in January, 2017 v. 15 in 2016. 5 <br />cats in 2017 v. 4 in 2016. Rescues were 32in January 2017, v. 31 in January 2016, <br />13 dogs in 2017 v. 21 in 2016, 19 cats in 2017 v. 10 in 2016. Euthanasia was 36 in <br />January, 2016 consisting of 22 dog, 13cats , 1 wildlife; in January 2017 it was 9 dogs, <br />8 cats, 2 raccoons. <br />Changed procedures to vaccinate on intake and provide preventative <br />medication. Trainer West Todd helping staff and volunteers work with animals. <br />She reported Never Outcomed 4 dogs 1 cat in January 2016 either not documented <br />properly or no idea where animal went. <br />In preparing annual report now implementing spread sheet rather than individual <br />by hand accounting. Officers now have specialties re: hoarders, breeders etc. <br />Fosters coming in to get training. Need to get word out to community through PSA <br />or commercial about program. Microchip and tag events planned. Fundraisers: <br />golf outing in May, motorcycle ride in fall are in the works. She wants to start <br />radiothon fundraising. Wants animal based community center by 2022. <br />Talked about HVAC system for cat room and screen door. Marlena has come in for <br />cat enrichment. Wants to get press release out for 217 account and earmarking of <br />funds. Dogfighting training will be on Friday at police department. In contact with <br />
