INDIANA 46601 October 20, 1976 Members of the Common Council 441 County /City Building South Bend, IN 46601 Dear Council Members: vO\_UTION� /cF vQ y� c LU INDIANP 219/284 -9251 At the direction of the Mayor, the Department of Public Works is proceed- ing with the planning phase of a project for the widening of the Colfax Avenue -St. Joseph River Bridge, and the reconstruction of the east bank of the river to a point just upstream of the South Bend Dam. In coopera- tion with the Planning Bureau of the Department of Human Resources and Economic Development, the Department of Public Works is completing the application for Local Public Works Capital Development and Investment Program funds for the construction of this project. The guidelines for the use of these funds require that the Common Council, as the legislative body of the City of South Bend, concur in this project and the funding application. A Resolution has been presented to you for your consideration authorizing Mayor Nemeth, as Chief Executive Office of the City, to prepare and file this application. The justification for these projects has been reviewed with you in a public hearing at the time money for engineering design fees was appropriated. This justification is not repeated here.
