January 15, 1962 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />January 15, 1962 at 10:00 A.M. CST. All members were present. Minutes <br />of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were <br />approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE ( 8 CARS - POLICE DEPARTMENT) <br />Comes now Orson E. Harman, Chief of Police, and requests permission to <br />place advertisements in The South Bend Tribune and The Record for the <br />purpose of accepting bids for 8 cars for use of the Police Department. <br />Permission granted and the Clerk of the Board directed to place advertise- <br />ments in The South Bend Tribune and The Record on January 199 and January <br />269 1962. Sealed bids will be opened on February 59 1962. <br />Four used cars will be considered as a trade-in on the purchase of the <br />8 new cars. The Chief of Police will designate the old cars to be traded <br />in this purchase. <br />REPORT FROM TRAFFIC ENGINEER RE: COLFAX HOTEL LOADING ZONE <br />Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, recommended zthat; in answer to a request <br />of the Colfax Hotel, 120 W. Colfax Avenue, through its attorney, Paul J. <br />Schwertley, that a loading zone be granted to extend a distance of 29 <br />feet to the east from the west property line of the Colfax Hotel. <br />It is the recommendation that parking meter #2 be replaced to provide <br />one parking space in front of 118 W. Colfax Avenue. These spaces were <br />previously allotted to the Courtesy Cab Company., 122 W. Colfax Avenue, <br />for a cab stand, which the: -Traffic Engineer has recommended be moved west <br />to in front of 122 W. Colfax Avenue. <br />Following the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the Board fuled- <br />that the changes be adopted, in acoordance with Mr. Hazinski's report. <br />REPORT FROM TRAFFIC ENGINEER ( GAWTH@OPE. COURTESY CAB, REQUEST FOR <br />CAB STAND <br />With reference to a request from Robert Gawthrope of the Courtesy Cab <br />Company, 122 W. Colfax Avenue, for one additional cab stand, after <br />investigation by the Traffic Engineer, it is recommended that the <br />Courtesy Cab Company be granted permission to increase the number of <br />cabs on that`stand from 2 cab spaces to 3. It is further recommended <br />that the present cab stand be moved to the west on Colfax Avenue to <br />122 W. Colfax and that the meters numbered 4-6 and 8 be removed and <br />that these metered spaces become the location for the three cabs. <br />Upon payment of $75.009 which is the annual rate per cab space, the <br />additional space will become -.effective, provided that no more than three <br />cabs be stored at this location at any time and that such violation will <br />result in removal of this additional cab stand with forfiture of the <br />annual fee. <br />The recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, after examination, was <br />approved by the Board. <br />The City of South Bend entered into an Agreement with State..of..ZAdjana�:through <br />Highway Commission of Indiana and its'.dulyauthorized officials approving <br />the installation of traffic signals at intersection of State Route 2 <br />(Western Avenue and Lombardy Drive),in the City of South Bend. <br />After the Agreement is ratified by the State of Indiana, a copy will be <br />placed on file in theBoard-of-Works Office. <br />[l <br />1 <br />
