92 <br />December 26, 1961 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Tuesday, <br />December 26, 1961 at 10:00 A.M. CST. All -members were present. Minutes <br />of the last regular meeting and the special meetings were read and <br />approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various <br />suppliers. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT PROMOTION <br />Upon the recommendation of the Chief of the Police Department, the <br />Board approved the promotion of Officer Mathew Barczykowski to the rank <br />of Sergeant, effective January 1, 1962. <br />CLOSING OF ALLEY ( Y.M.C.A. BUILDING PROGRAM) <br />Comes now Mr. Edwin D. VanRyn of Maurer & Maurer, Architects, and <br />informs the Board that the Y.M.C.A* building plans will necessitate <br />the closing of alleys for a period of construction. <br />After hearing Mr. VanRyn, the Board referred the matter to Clem Hazinski, <br />Traffic Engineer for a report to the Board and his recommendations.to <br />be submitted at the Board meeting of January 2, 1962. <br />RE: MCKINLEY LAGOON ( SKATING PRIVILEGES) <br />A progress report on the matter of skating on McKinley Lagoon made by <br />Clem Hazinski and Ray Andrysiak indicates that residents in the area <br />are willing to serve as a committee to determine when the ice is safe <br />for skating. <br />A letter, addressed to the Board of Public Works & Safety, setting forth <br />the responsibility of the committee, was presented to the Board. The <br />following residents signed the letter and will act as volunteer members <br />of the committee: <br />Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Wilson <br />Al Waters <br />Mr. and Mrs. Fred Andersen <br />Mr. and Mrs. G. Miholich <br />Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Robinson <br />Mr. and Mrs. Murray Solzman <br />Mr. and Abs. Arthur Steckley <br />Mr. and Mrs. Milton Walton <br />Mr. and Mrs. William A. Hargreaves <br />727 Hickory Road <br />3613 Sorin St. <br />3525 Sorin St. <br />722 Whitehall Drive <br />714 Whitehall Drive <br />740 Whitehall Drive <br />746 Whitehall Drive <br />754 Whitehall Drive <br />804 Whitehall Drive <br />The letter was accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />The Board ruled that a flag pole will be erected on city property at the <br />site and a red flag will be provided. When, in the opinion of the <br />committee, the ice is unsafe for skating, the red flag will be flown. <br />When this installation has been completed, the present signs prohibiting <br />trespassing will be removed and the Police Department will be notified <br />of this action. <br />The Board expressed its thanks to the members of the committee for their <br />cooperation and also expressed appreciation to Mr. Ray Andrysiak and Mr. <br />Clem Hazinski for their work in this project. <br />LETTERS COMMENDING FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />A letter from Mrs. Margaret R. Alexander praising the Fire Department for <br />its ambulet service in rushing her to a hospital in an emergency was read <br />by the Board and ordered placed on file. <br />A letter from the Salvation Army expressing appreciation to the members of <br />the Fire Department for donating their services during the Christmas Kettle <br />Effort this year was also read and ordered placed on file. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT APPLICATION <br />An application for the Fire Department from Bert W. Andrzejewski was accepted <br />and ordered placed on file. <br />1 <br />
