December 49 1961 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, December 4, 1961 at 10:00 A.M. CST. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were .read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. AMERICAN RED CROSS LETTER ( RE: CITATION FOR LIFE SAVING - FIRE DEPARTMENT) .A Letter from Fred Vaughn, Jr., Volunteer Chairman; Disaster Services of the St. Joseph County Chapter, American Red Cross, was presented to the Board. Mr. Vaughn, representing the Red Cross, expressed appreciation to Firemen DeBuysser and Lt. John Filczak and the men of Squad Co. 21 for their action in saving the life of a boy rescued from a burning house. Firemen DeBuysser administered mouth to mouth resuscitation until the child began to breath, and he was then rushed to the hospital via Fire Department Ambulet. Mr. Vaughn further stated that the Red Cross Fird Aid training is mandatory for both the Fire and Police Departments and that the American Red Cross will recommend that a Certificate of Merit be issued, from now on, to those responsible for saving a life as a direct result of this training. This award will be presented at the Annual Meeting of the local American Red Cross. The Board also expressed appreciation and congratulations to the Firemen ►-D involved in this particular life saving incident and, further expressed its appreciation to the entire Fire Department for their splendid work beyond the regular call of duty. The letter was ordered placed on file. POLICE REPORT - RE: STREET LIGHT AND TRAFFIC_ SIGNALS (_MIAMI & IRELAND RDS.) A Report from Officers J. Pastor and G. Knepper suggesting that a street light be installed at Miami and Ireland Roads since this intersection has only one street light for this large area. The Report also calls attention to the fact that traffic is very heavy at the intersection and requested that a study be made of traffic with an eye towards the installation of automatic traffic lights at this intersection. Mr. Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, present at the meeting, reported that a study had already been made at this intersection and it was the opinion of his Department that it did not warrant a traffic signal at this time. The Board referred the Report to Nicholas Horvath, Electrical Department, for infestigation and report. PETITION ( STREET LIGHT) A Petition for the installation of a street light at 1514 Rush Street was referred to the Electrical Department for investigation and report. ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT ( STREET LIGHT INSTALLATIONS) Following the recommendation of the Electrical Department, the following street light installations were approved: 1 - 4000 street light at 1509 Rush St.(lumen) I - 4000 lumen street light at 2516 W. Grace St. I - 4000 lumen street light at 919 Humphrey Ct. (Remove present 2500 lumen) 1 - 4000 lumen street light at Indiana & Grant Sts. 1 - 4000 lumen street light at 911 S. Emerson Ave. 1 - 4000 lumen street light at 816 S. Liberty St. TRAFFIC ENGINEER ( TRAFFIC SIGNALS) Following the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the following installations were approved: Stop Signs installed on -Lombardy Drive, both sides, at Washington Avenue, making this a 4-way stop intersection. Stop Signs installed on Carroll Street, both sides, at Bowman Street.
