December 49 1961 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, December <br />4, 1961 at 10:00 A.M. CST. All members were present. Minutes of the last <br />regular meeting were .read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered <br />paid to the various suppliers. <br />AMERICAN RED CROSS LETTER ( RE: CITATION FOR LIFE SAVING - FIRE DEPARTMENT) <br />.A Letter from Fred Vaughn, Jr., Volunteer Chairman; Disaster Services of the <br />St. Joseph County Chapter, American Red Cross, was presented to the Board. <br />Mr. Vaughn, representing the Red Cross, expressed appreciation to Firemen <br />DeBuysser and Lt. John Filczak and the men of Squad Co. 21 for their action <br />in saving the life of a boy rescued from a burning house. Firemen DeBuysser <br />administered mouth to mouth resuscitation until the child began to breath, <br />and he was then rushed to the hospital via Fire Department Ambulet. <br />Mr. Vaughn further stated that the Red Cross Fird Aid training is mandatory <br />for both the Fire and Police Departments and that the American Red Cross <br />will recommend that a Certificate of Merit be issued, from now on, to those <br />responsible for saving a life as a direct result of this training. This <br />award will be presented at the Annual Meeting of the local American Red <br />Cross. <br />The Board also expressed appreciation and congratulations to the Firemen <br />►-D involved in this particular life saving incident and, further expressed its <br />appreciation to the entire Fire Department for their splendid work beyond <br />the regular call of duty. <br />The letter was ordered placed on file. <br />POLICE REPORT - RE: STREET LIGHT AND TRAFFIC_ SIGNALS (_MIAMI & IRELAND RDS.) <br />A Report from Officers J. Pastor and G. Knepper suggesting that a street <br />light be installed at Miami and Ireland Roads since this intersection has <br />only one street light for this large area. <br />The Report also calls attention to the fact that traffic is very heavy at <br />the intersection and requested that a study be made of traffic with an eye <br />towards the installation of automatic traffic lights at this intersection. <br />Mr. Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, present at the meeting, reported that <br />a study had already been made at this intersection and it was the opinion <br />of his Department that it did not warrant a traffic signal at this time. <br />The Board referred the Report to Nicholas Horvath, Electrical Department, <br />for infestigation and report. <br />PETITION ( STREET LIGHT) <br />A Petition for the installation of a street light at 1514 Rush Street <br />was referred to the Electrical Department for investigation and report. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT ( STREET LIGHT INSTALLATIONS) <br />Following the recommendation of the Electrical Department, the following <br />street light installations were approved: <br />1 - 4000 street light at 1509 Rush St.(lumen) <br />I - 4000 lumen street light at 2516 W. Grace St. <br />I - 4000 lumen street light at 919 Humphrey Ct. (Remove present 2500 lumen) <br />1 - 4000 lumen street light at Indiana & Grant Sts. <br />1 - 4000 lumen street light at 911 S. Emerson Ave. <br />1 - 4000 lumen street light at 816 S. Liberty St. <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEER ( TRAFFIC SIGNALS) <br />Following the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the following <br />installations were approved: <br />Stop Signs installed on -Lombardy Drive, both sides, at Washington Avenue, <br />making this a 4-way stop intersection. <br />Stop Signs installed on Carroll Street, both sides, at Bowman Street. <br />
