September 25, 1961 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />September 25, 1961 at 10:00 A.M. DST. Messrs R. S. Andrysiak and Edwin <br />L. Davies were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read <br />and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various <br />suppliers. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT (SUB -STANDARD DIVISION) HEARINGS <br />Comes now Mr. Gustole with reference to property he owns at 917 E. Wayne <br />Street with a letter from his insurance company concerning ruling on <br />boarding up this vacant dwelling. According to the insurance company's <br />letter, if the building is boarded up it cannot be covered :by insurance. <br />In view of this ruling, it was the decision of the Board that the broken <br />windows and doors be covered with heavy wire or window replacements in <br />a manner to keep vandals from occupying premises. The Board abso directed <br />that all effort be made to protect from careless or intended fires; and <br />that repairs be started within 60 days from this date and that repairs <br />be completed on or before January 1, 1962. The Board also ruled that <br />Mr. Gustole comply with code and ordinances in such repair. <br />Comes now Mrs. King, owner of property located at 234 E. Sample.Street to <br />show cause why property that has been condemned has not been brought up <br />to standard. Mrs. King advised that there are three prospective -buyers <br />for this property. <br />Mr. Grabarz and Battalion Chief Downes advised the Board that this house <br />is filled with junk and is a fire hazard and that Mrs. King has made no <br />effort to correct this condition. <br />After hearing all parties concerned, the Board continued this case for <br />one month to allow sufficient time for Mrs. King to dispose of property <br />or correct the present conditions; arid, at the end of this month,the <br />Board will determine if this structure shall be demolished if Mrs. King <br />has not disposed of this property. Mrs. King was further advised to <br />remove debris prior to the next hearing on this so that, should the Board <br />determine that said property shall be demolished, no additional time will <br />be required for such removal. <br />Mr. Grabarz presented a progress report on property located at 714 E. LaSalle <br />Avenue. This property has been sold, and the new owner has secured a <br />permit to demolish building. <br />Mr. Grabarz also reported that with reference to property at 417 St. Vincent <br />Street, that he has not,been able to contact the owner at this date. <br />The owner of property at 830 Rush Street, ordered to appear on this date, <br />did not appear as ordered. Case continued. <br />The owner of property located at 502 S. 29th Street did not appear on this <br />date as ordered. House is to be brought up to standard, according to the <br />information that Mr. Grabarz has received as of this date. <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEER ( TRAFFIC SIGNS) <br />The Board, following the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, approved <br />the installation of the following: <br />Stop sign installed on Taylor St., southeast corner, at Washington <br />Stop signs on High Street, both sides, at Woodside Street. <br />r►o Iot r Par;kiflg 6, azm: to* p m..signs, (2) ! insta,.11ed at 121 S. <br />St. eter Street. <br />Stop Signs installed on Dubail at Marietta Street, making this a <br />4-way Stop intersection. <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />
