September 5, 1961 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, September <br />59 1961 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last <br />regular meeting and the special meeting were read and approved. Vouchers <br />were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEER (RE: INDUSTRIAL PARK & CHICAGO, SOUTH SHORE & SOUTH BE <br />RAILROAD <br />Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer presented a report concerning the develop- <br />ment of Industrial Park and the railroad facilities that are included in <br />the development plan for this area. <br />It was the recommendation of Mr. Hazinski that the Railroad Company install <br />a short arm gate and flasher signals with adequate advance warning signs <br />on-Bendix Drive. It was his recommendation that BendixlYlve be closed <br />for this installation. <br />Following the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the Board approved <br />this plan and directed Mr. Hazinski to meet with the Railroad representatives <br />to work out this plan. <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEER (STOP SIGN) PETITION <br />A petition from residents in the area of Blaine Avenue at intersection <br />of Blaine and Vassar Avenue and the intereseci-bn of Blaime and Humboldt was <br />presented topthe Board, requesting erection of 4-way Stop Sign. <br />The Petition was referred to the Traffic Engineer for examination and <br />recommendation. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT ( STREET LIGHTS) <br />Following the recommendation of the Electrical Department Superintendent, <br />the Board approved the installation of the following: <br />1 - 4000 lumen light at 1923 S. Scott St. <br />A Petition from Mr. and Mrs. John Joossens and others for a Street Light <br />on Parkway or close proximity to intersection of Humbolt and Cleveland and <br />Diamond Avenue was referred to the Electrical Department for investigation <br />and recommendation. <br />REQUESTS: COUNCILMAN LEHMAN <br />Comes now Councilman T. W. Lehman with the following requests: <br />1. Request for a stop sign at Dubail and Marietta Streets. <br />2. Request for a stop sign at Hoke and Donald Streets. <br />3. Traffic control at Miami and Donmoyer Streets and stricter enforcement of <br />a "Yield" sign at Springbrook and Woodmont Drives. <br />4. Trucking Company at 2905 S. Main Street is causing a nuisance by <br />excessive dust in the neighborhood. Requests dust control for this area. <br />5. Requests that action be taken regarding a house that is located at <br />2205 Ironwood Drive and which has been condemned but is still left standing. <br />The Board, having heard Councilman Lehman referred the requests for stop <br />signs to the Traffic Engineer for investigation and recommendation. The <br />request for strict enforcement of "Yield" sign was referred to the Police <br />Traffic Department. <br />The Board referred the matter of the Bust control on S. Main Street to <br />Officer Krupa of the Health Department. <br />
