August 149 1961 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, August 141 <br />1961 at 10:00 A.M. DST. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular <br />meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the <br />various suppliers. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT (APPOINTmmrs) <br />The following applicants having met all requirements for the Police Department <br />and having been recommended by the Police Chief were appointed to the Police <br />Department, effective August 169 1961: <br />Fred J. Gantert, Jr. and Edward Wawrzyniak <br />The above were also unanimously accepted for membership in the South Bend <br />Police Pension Fund. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT (APPOINTMENTS)_ <br />The following applicants to the Fire Department, having passed all requirements <br />necessary and having been unanimously accepted by the Firemen's Pension Fund <br />were appointed to the Fire Department, effective August 169 1961: <br />John E. Kolacz and James Douglas Cole. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT (PERMISSION TO BID FOR CARS) <br />Comes now Chief Dutrieux and requests permission to advertise for bids for <br />5 new sedans and 1 station wagon. The Board, having been advised that there <br />is sufficient funds in the budget for such purchase approves and the Clerk of <br />the Board is authorized to place advertisements in The South Bend Tribune and <br />The Record on August 18 and August 25, 1961. Bids will be opened on August 21, <br />1961 at 10:00 A.M. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT (PERMISSION TO CLOSE ALLEYS - ROBERTSON'S & GREENE'S_) <br />Permission was given to A. Epstein and Sons, Rngineers and Architects, to <br />close the alley south of Robertson's Departibent Store west to the rear of <br />the Post Office.and also the alley in the rear of Greene's for approximately <br />four days in order to take Test Borings. The Clerk was directed to notify the <br />Police and Fire Department of this action. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT (PERMISSION TO ATTEND REFRESHER ODURSE) <br />$ermission was granted to Mr. Elwyn Feinhold, Chief Plumbing Inspector, to <br />attend a Refresher Course given by the Amefi6an Society of Sanitary Engineering <br />in St. Louis on August 27 and 28. <br />SUB -STANDARD DIVISION (HEARINGS) <br />Comes now Mr. Albert Frank, 418 Cottage Grove Avenue as requested by the Board. <br />Mr. Frank was unable to appear at the Board Meeting but, prior to the meeting, <br />gave a statement to the Secretary saying that he does not own the property listed <br />above nor does he have anything to do with said property nor does he have any <br />authority over said property which is owned by his father, Mr. John Frank, now <br />in a Nursing Home. <br />Case continued for 30 days in order to allow ample time to take further action <br />with rightful owner of said property. <br />The hearing on groperty located at 518 S. 33rd St., was considered. Mrs. Kelly <br />appeared for her daughter who owns the property and advised the Board that her <br />daughter and husband are out of the city and she has no authority to bring <br />property up to standard. <br />Ca se continued for 30 days. <br />With reference to property located at 122 E. Paris Street where repair orders <br />had been issued two years ago and follow-up letters issued since that date was <br />considered by the Board. <br />
