March 13, 1961 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, March 13, <br />1961 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular <br />meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were ordered paid to the various <br />suppliers. <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEER REQUESTS(SEMINAR) - (ROAD SCHOOL) -- <br />Comes now Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, and requests permission to attend <br />a seminar of the American Automobile Association and the Chicago Motor Club <br />to be held in Springfield, Illinois, at which seminar Mr.. Hazinski has been <br />requested to lecture on Pedestrian Safety. This meeting will be attended by <br />safety and law enforcement officiels of the State of Illinois. The seminar <br />will be held on March 23 and March 24. There will be no expense to the City. <br />Permission granted. <br />Clem Hazinski also requests permission to attend a Road School to be held at <br />Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana, from March 28 through March 30, 1961. <br />Permission granted. <br />REQUEST: TRAFFIC SIGNALS (HICKORY ROAD- BY MAYOR BRUGGNER <br />Mayor Bruggner has requested further study made on the possibility of traffic <br />signals on Hickory Road. The Board had previously requested the State Highway <br />Commission to install traffic signals on Logan and McKinley because of increased <br />traffic conditions and said request had been denied. The Mayor has note <br />instituted another request based upon the traffic conditions on Hickory Road and <br />McKinley . <br />The Traffic Engineer now reports that there is a possibility that a favorable <br />consideration may be forthcoming from the State Highway Commission and that <br />the request for installation of traffic lights will be granted. This decision <br />may be made within two weeks, according to the Traffic Engineer. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( HOUSE MOVE ) <br />Comes now Verner Lane who requests the Board to approve a house move from 1225 <br />S. Twyckenham Drive to 1745 Fremont Street. The house is owned by Cecil W. Fowler <br />and the mover is Mitschelen House Movers. Verner Lane informs the Board that <br />notice: of said move has been submitted to property owners on Fremont Street <br />and said Building Commissioner also informs the Board of requirements to be <br />met before, house can be occupied. Mr. bane further informs the Board that <br />full indemnities and certain requirements on prior move have not been ful- <br />filed. Permit will be issued at such a time as requirements for move at 218 <br />E. Altgeld Street have been met. The conditions of move are as follows: <br />a. Provide adequate footings and foundations to meet code requirements. <br />b. Provide adequate supporting members for floor system. <br />c. Repair roof eaves as necessary. <br />d. Install eave troughs <br />e. Grade must conform to general topography of area. <br />The move which will cross Twyckenham Bridge is approved, as is the move over <br />the railroad tracks. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT BIDS) <br />Bids for demolition of structure at 217 S. Walnut were received and reviewed <br />by the Building Department and reported to the Board. The following bids were <br />received: <br />_Ham The Wrecker $285.00 without salvage <br />B & 0 Wrecking Co. 290.00 it. " <br />Joseph Ksiezopolski 300.00 to ' it <br />It was the decision of the Board that the bid be let to Ham, The Wrecker. <br />SUB -STANDARD DIVISION <br />Comes now John Grabarz of the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department <br />and reports that orders issued to Josefa Jaworski, owner of properties at <br />61.2 Jacks6r Street and 514 S. Bendix Drive, both sub -standard dwellings, had <br />
