The Clerk is <br />directed to advertise for sealed bids in The South Bend Tribune and The <br />Record on January 27 and February 3, 1961. Bids will be opened at 10:00 A.M. <br />on February 6, 1961. <br />RE: POLICE DEPARTMENT ACCIDENT REPORT_ <br />A report of ,an accident on January 13, 1961 involving a squad car was reported <br />by Officer L;B. Pastrick. The Clerk was directed to follow through on this <br />accident to ascertain that damages were paid.by insurance company. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT APPLICATIONS <br />Applications for thef-ollewing'candidates for the Fire Department were accepted <br />and ordered placed on file: William John Gish, Joseph Bognar. <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT (STOP SIGNS <br />The Board approved the installation of Stop Signs on High Street, both sides, <br />at Fairview Street. <br />REQUEST OF COUNCILMAN LEHMAN (TRAFFIC SIGNS <br />r�l A letter from Councilman T. W. Lehman, 5th District, to the Board, requested <br />a traffic count at the following locations to determine the need for stop signs: <br />Haney and Rush Sts. <br />Haney and Carroll Sts. <br />Haney and St. Joseph St. <br />Councilman Lehman also forwarded a copy of a letter from Mrs. Dale Schoner <br />concerning the intersection of Broadway and Michigan Street. Mrs. Schoner <br />alleges that traffic light at that corner is so short-tthat it is impossible <br />to cross street on the green light. <br />These requests were referred to the Traffic Engineer for investigation and <br />report. <br />T_R_AFFIC ENGINEER REQUEST (INDIANAPOLIS MEETINGS) <br />Comes now Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer and requests permission to attend <br />a meeting in Indianapolis on January 26 of the Institute of Traffic Engineers <br />and to confer with the State Highway Department in Indianapolis on January <br />27. The Board, having been assured that there is sufficient funds in the <br />Department's budget to cover this trip, permission granted. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT <br />Following the recommendation of Nicholas Horvath of the Lectrical Department, <br />the Board approved the installation of a 2500 lumen light in alley of the <br />1600 Block South Magnolia St. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT REQUEST (ATTEND MEETING <br />Comes now Verner Lane, Building Department Commissioner, and requests permission <br />to attend a meeting of the National'_Association of Home Builders in Chicago on <br />January 30 and January 31, 1961. The Board, being assured that the cost of <br />said trip will be the responsibility of the Home Builders Association, permission <br />was granted. <br />AGREEMENT FOR FIRE PROTECTION (PORTAGE TOWNSHIP) <br />An agreement made and entered into on the 3rd day of January, 1961 between the <br />City of South Bend and Portage Township for fire protection was approved by the <br />Board and ordered placed on file. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT COMMENDATION (PHOTOGRAPHERS) <br />The Mayor, through the Board of Public Works & Safety, and the Board,wished to <br />commend the photographers in the Police Department for the splendid work done <br />in connection with the location and re -location of the Armory in South Bend. <br />
