January 23, 1961 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, January <br />23, 1961 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular <br />meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to <br />the various suppliers. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB STANDARD DIVISION PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE) <br />Comes now John Grabarz, of the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department, <br />and requests permission to advertise for the demolition of property owned <br />by Rev. Bowles. Said property located at 203-215 S. Kentucky Street. This <br />property was condemned in 1959. Case was appealed and continued for 60 days. <br />To date nothing has been done to bring property up to standard. <br />The Board, after hearing review of case, ordered Mr. Grabarz to prod6ed <br />according to original order. <br />Mr. Grabarz presents a progress report on property located at 1205 King Street. <br />The owner of this property was ordered by the Boad in December, 1960 to <br />have structure vacated and bring it up to standard by January 9, 1961 or <br />said property would" -be demolished. To date this has not been done. <br />Comes now Mr. H. DeMott, new owner of this property and requests an extension <br />of time in order to bring property up to standard. He further states that <br />he is award of the Building Department requirements concerning this property. <br />The Board continues said case until April 24, 1961. If said premises are <br />not brought up to standard in compliance with the Building Department require- <br />ments by this date the Building Department shall proceed with condemnation and <br />demolishment. <br />A progress report on property at 1809 N. Meade Street, owner being Omar Robbins, <br />deceased, shows that the survivor, Clarence Robbins, has no interest in said <br />property nor funds to bring it up to standard and is willing and anxious to <br />have structure demolished. Mr. Grabarz directed by the Boaxid to secure <br />release from survivor. <br />A progress report on property located at 1813 N. Meade Street shows that it is <br />County owned, that is,a part of an estate.that has allowed taxes to accumulate. <br />�' Mr. Grabarz informed the Boarid that he would like to investigate the possibility <br />of using this property for a Fire Department training ground. <br />After hearing Mr. Grabarz, the Board directed him to secure permission of the <br />present owners for this use. <br />Comes now Mrs. Wilkes with reference to property she owns at 1412 W. Washington <br />Avenue, more particularly an accessory building in the rear of this address <br />which is not up to standard. Mrs. Wilkes respectfully requests permission of <br />the Board for a continuance of this case. Permission granted and case continued <br />for 60 days in order to bring structure up to standard. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT APPOINTMENTS <br />The following applicart s, having met all requirements both physical and mental <br />and having successfully passed all tests and having been unanimously accepted <br />by the Pension Fund Board, and having been recommended by the Police Chief are <br />now duly appointed to the South Bend Police Department and sworn in at this <br />time: Richard I. Chlebek, 11372 W. Jefferson, Robert E� Riddle, 3542 S. <br />Fellows Street. <br />The ppp6lhtments are effective as of this date. <br />BOND - SPECIAL POLICE <br />A Bond for Fred J. Martel, Special Police Officer, was approved by the Board and <br />ordered placed on file. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT (ADVERTISE FOR VEHICLES <br />Comes now Police Chief J. Charles Dutrieux, and requests permission to advertise <br />for the purchase of 5 new four door Sedans and 1 Police Service Car Motorcycle. <br />1 <br />
