September 6, 1960 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety convened at 10:00 A.M. on <br />Tuesday, September 6, 1960. Messrs. Ray Andrysiak and Irving J. Smith were <br />present. <br />The Board declared that there will be no other bids taken as it appears to be <br />10:00 A.M., avid no business will be considered at this time. The Board <br />therefore recessed until 1:30 P.M. <br />The time being 1:45 P.M. the Board reconvened. Minutes of the previous <br />regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and <br />ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT BIDS <br />The time nbw being 1:45 P.M. it was so announced. Bids for the purchase <br />of Fire Department vehicles were opened and read aloud. Proofs of publics-- <br />tion from The South Bend Tribune and The Record with affidavits signed by <br />Robert DeLong for The South Bend Tribune and Walter Clements for The Record <br />were found sufficient. <br />j <br />The following bid was received: <br />Freeman -Spicer Co.. Inc. <br />520 S. Lafayette Blvd. <br />South;` Bend, Ind. <br />1 - 1961 Studebaker Lark 4 Door Station Wagon <br />1 - 1961 Studebaker Lark Cruiser 4 Door Sedan <br />Special Discounted Price on 2 Card $59639.12 <br />Less Federal Tax on 2 Cars 412.01 <br />Net Delivered Price $5,227.11 <br />Certified Check in the sum of $523.00 <br />Non -Collusion Affidavit, signed by Victor Freeman <br />After consideration, the Board awards the bid to Freeman -Spicer Co., Inc. <br />on condition that the specifications and proposal compare with the <br />specifications submitted. <br />The Board approved the appointment of Morgan Peck as a Special Police Officer <br />who will now be sworn in by the Police Chief. <br />Nicholar Horvath, Superintendent of the Electrical Department recommended <br />the following changes in street lighting, which was approved by the Board: <br />On East Sample Street between Michigan Street and Lincolnway East - <br />Remove: 2 - <br />1000 <br />lumen <br />underground lights <br />2 - <br />2500 <br />lumen <br />underground lights <br />10 <br />- 4000 <br />lumen <br />overhead lights <br />2 - <br />6000 <br />lumen <br />overhead lights <br />Install: 41 - 15,000 lumen overhead lights, steel pole <br />(Print No. D 5-5532 Attached). <br />The following lumen street light installations were approved: <br />1. 733 S. Liberty St. <br />2. 1300 Block North Iowa <br />3. 1600 Block North Keller St., between Wilber and Adams St. <br />The Monthly Report for August, 1960 from the Building Department was <br />approved and ordered placed on file. <br />Comes now the Fire Qhief and requests permission to send Lieutenant Robert <br />Loughlin and Battalion Chief Carl Lederer to attend a fire school meeting <br />at Purdue University on September 13 through September 18, 1960. The <br />Fire Chief reports that there--suf-f-icient money in the budget for such a <br />trip, therefore permission was granted. <br />
