228 <br />August 22, 1960 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works & Safety was held on Monday, <br />August 22, 1960 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the - <br />previous regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and <br />ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />BIDS FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT VEHICLES <br />Comes now the Fire Chief and informs the Board that there is sufficient funds <br />in the budget for the purchase of two Fire Department cars. The Clerk is <br />directed to prepare specifications for advertising on August 269 September <br />2, 1960 in The South Bend Tribune and The Record. Bids will be opened at <br />the regular meeting of the Board on September 6, 1960. <br />The Fire Chief also reauests permission to attend the Fire Chief's Cknference <br />in Rochester, New York from September 9 through September 17, 1960. Per- <br />mission was.granted. a> <br />OPENING OF BIDS —'POLICE CAR <br />The time now being after 10:00 A.M. it was so announced and the bid for <br />the Police Department car was opened and read aloud. Proofs of publication <br />in The South Bend Tribune and The Record with an affidavit by Robert DeLong <br />for The Tribune and Mary J. Schenck for The Record were submitted to the <br />Board and found sufficient. The only bid received was as folbows: <br />Freeman -Spicer Co.. Inc. <br />520 S. Lafayette Blvd. <br />South Bend 19 Ind. <br />1 1960 Studebaker Lark VJ6 - 2 Door Sedan <br />Special discounted Price $21,399.06 <br />Less Federal Tax 202.18 <br />$2,196.88 <br />Less Trade-in Car #53 300.00 <br />Total Neat delivered difference $19896.88 <br />Non -Collusion Affidavit, signed by Victor Freeman, Pres. <br />Certified check for $190.00 <br />It appearing there were no other bidders, the Board awarded the bid to <br />Freeman -Spicer Co., Inc. contingent that the specifications are the same as <br />in the advertisement. <br />The Fire Chief appeared before the Board to submit new type badges for <br />Fire Department personnal. The Board, after examination of said badges, <br />approved the change and confirmed the action of the Chief in the issuance <br />of the new type badge. <br />An Accident Report, dated August 91 1960, was submitted by Officers E. Busch <br />and Switalski, examined by the Board. Clerk was directed to try to secure <br />payment. <br />A Continuation Certificate for Robert Louis Kingsaver, niaw, Special Police <br />Officer, was examined by the Board and approved. <br />Special Policeman's Bond for Robert Kenneth McCarthy Special Police Officer, <br />appointed for the term beginning the 19th day of August 1960 and ending <br />the 19th day of August, 1961 was examined, approved and ordered placed on <br />file. <br />Petitions for street lights at north end of alley between Adams and Wilbur <br />and 733 S. Liberty Street was referred to the Electrical Department for <br />examination and recommendation. <br />Street Light Outage Report was examined, approved and ordered placed on file. <br />An application for the Police Auxiliary School Patrol from Norma Jean Biles <br />--- was examined and ordered placed on file. <br />1 <br />1 <br />
