August 8, 1960 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, August 8, <br />1960 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting <br />were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various <br />suppliers. <br />SUPPLEMENTAL AGREEMENT - PUBLIC STREET LIGHTING - INDIANA & MICHIGAN ELECTRIC CO. <br />A supplemental agreement between the Indiana & Michigan Electric Company and the <br />City of South Bend stipulating that "it shall continue to be the policy of the <br />Indiana & Michigan Electric Company, not to discriminate in the hiring of - <br />employees by reason of race, color, creed or national origin" was approved by <br />the Board and ordered attached to the Contract. <br />BIDS FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Comes now Police Chief Dutrieux with a request that the Board of Works advertise <br />for the purchase of one 1960 2 door sedan for use of the Department. He further <br />states that there is sufficient funds in the budget to warrant this Pyt3chase. <br />The Board directed that specifications be prepared and the Clerk to advertise <br />in The Record and The South Bend Tribune, advertisements to appear on August 12 <br />and August 19, 1960. Bids will be received by the Board on August 22, at 10:00 <br />A.M. <br />SETTLEMENT OF ACCIDENT TO FIRE DEPARTMENT VEHICLE <br />Mr. Irving J. Smith, City Attorney, reports that a case by the City of South Bend <br />against Casimer Sobieski and Frances Prentkowski as the result of damages to a <br />< fire department vehicle which occurred on July 13, 1960 had been satisfactorily <br />'e!r settled. Settlement was made by virtue of taking a vehicle instead of cash. <br />`- Also submitted was a bill of sale from Newman & Altman, Inc. which has been <br />paid and shows that the vehicle has been delivered to the Fire Department. <br />A release has been executed. The documents concerning this were approved and <br />ordered placed on file. <br />A report from Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, on the condition of bushes located <br />at the corner of St. Peter and St. Vincent Street and also a busy at 1120 St. <br />Peter Street, advised the Board that these bushes are located in such a way as <br />to not obstruct view of vehicular traffic. Mr. Retek, foreman of the Department, <br />did not recommend the cutting of these bushes as traffic hazards. The <br />recommendation was upheld by the Board and the report ordered placed on file. <br />An application from Littie Julia Borowski for Police Auxiliary School Patrol was <br />examined by the Board, accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />A request from Elnora P. Stickley, Policewoman, that she be placed on retirement, <br />effective September 16, 1960, with terminal leave from September 1, 1960 through <br />Seprember. 15, 1960, was examined and approved. <br />Nicholas Horfath, Superintendent of the Electrical Department, recommends the <br />installation of street lights. Following the recommendation, the Board orders <br />the following installations: <br />4000 lumen street lights at the following locations in the Twyckenham Hills <br />Section "L". <br />1. <br />Brookmede and Ironwood <br />2. <br />" and Cooper Court <br />3. <br />" and Wexham Court - <br />4. <br />" and Evesham Court <br />5. <br />Cooper Court Circle.
