July 5, 1960 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Tuesday, July 59 <br />1960 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting <br />were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered poid to the various <br />suppliers. <br />Comes now Vernon Lane, Building Commissioner, to give a progress report on the <br />condemnation order of a dwelling at 615 E. Ohio Street, owned by Y.C. Magee who <br />resides at 506 E. Keasey Street. Mr. Lane reports that Mr. Magee has not brought <br />said dwelling up to standard as directed. The Clerk was directed to address <br />a letter to Mr. Magee informing him that unless he brought the dwelling at 615 <br />E. Ohio Street up to standard within three weeks from this date, the +condemna- <br />tion order will be carried out. <br />Vernon Lane, Building Commissioner, gives a progress report on the dwelling at <br />2143 N. Olive Street owned by Beverly and Irma E. Gibson, 8404 Stanton Ave., <br />Buena Park, Calif. and reports that the Olive Street dwelling has notyet been <br />removed. The Clerk was directed to address a letter to Beverly and Irma E. <br />Gibson, in. Buena Park, -and order them to appear before the Board in person or <br />through representation on the llth day of July, 1960 to show cause why said <br />dwelling has not been dismantled. <br />Represented by his attorney, William Roemer, and in person, appears Gerald <br />McGinn for a hearing on the following charges made by the Board on the 24th day <br />of June, 1960: <br />MUNICIPAL CITY OF SOUTH BEND <br />BEFORE THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS 8 SAFETY <br />IN THE MATTER OF ) CHARGES FOR VIOLATION OF THE RULES <br />Gerald McGinn ) AND REGULATIONS OF THE SOUTH BEND <br />1240 Canterbury Drive) FIRE DEPARTMENT - ARTICLE XIV, <br />South Bend, Indiana ) Section 6 and ARTICLE XIV, Section 15-a <br />That the said Gerald McGinn during the month of May and a portion of June, <br />1960, violated Article XIV, Section 6, of the rules and regulations of the <br />South Bend Fire Department, which regulation reads as follows: <br />ARTICLE XIV. Section 6. In matters of general conduct, not <br />within the scope of Department rules, said members shall be <br />governed by the ordinary rules of good behavior observed by <br />law-abiding and self-respecting citizens, and shall have <br />charges preferred against them for conduct tending to bring <br />reproach or reflection upon the Department . <br />That the violation of said rule and regulation occurred in the following <br />manner: Said Gerald McGinn, while wearing the uniform of the South Bend Fire <br />Department, cashed a check at a bank for which he did not have sufficient funds• <br />to cover and, subsequently, on the 21st day of June, 19609 pled guilty to a <br />charge of issuing fraudulentcheck in the St. Joseph Superior Court No. 2, <br />under Cause No. 120679 titled State of Indiana vs Gerald McGinn. <br />That further the said Gerald McGinn on the 17th day of June, 1960, <br />violated Article XIV, Section 15-a2 of the rules and regulations of the <br />South Bend Fire Department, which said regulation reads as follows: <br />ARTICLE XIV, Section 15-a.
