RESOLUTION NO. 663 -78 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND SUPPORTING AND ENCOURAGING <br />THE SUBSTANTIAL REHABILITATION OF THE WAREHOUSE <br />LOCATED AT 425 E. MADISON STREET, FOR THE PRO- <br />VISION OF SECTION 8 ASSISTED ELDERLY HOUSING, <br />AND ENCOURAGING THE DEVELOPMENT OF APPROPRIATE <br />SECTION 8 ASSISTED FAMILY HOUSING WITHIN THE <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND. <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend recognized <br />at Resolution No. 649 -78 "the desirability of stimulating the develop- <br />ment of residential, commercial and recreational uses in the East Bank <br />area "; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council is cognizant of private sector interest <br />in the rehabilitation /adaptive reuse of the warehouse located at 425 E. <br />Madison Street, in the East Bank area, as Section 8 assisted housing for <br />the elderly. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of <br />South Bend, Indiana, that: <br />SECTION I. Appropriate steps be undertaken to secure from the U.S. <br />Department of Housing and Urban Development a commitment for the sub- <br />stantial rehabilitation of the Warehouse located at 425 E. Madison Street <br />as Section 8 assisted housing for the elderly. <br />SECTION II. The Mayor is encouraged to take appropriate action to <br />amend the City's Housing Assistance Plan (HAP) to accommodate the assisted <br />housing project referred to above. <br />SECTION III. The Common Council supports the development of Section <br />8 assisted family housing within the City of South Bend. <br />SECTION IV. Further, the Common Council specifically enourages <br />private sector parties to call to its attention proposed Section 8 <br />assisted family housing projects which are consistent with the City's <br />housing assistance plan, and which will assist the City in reaching its <br />family housing HAP goals. <br />SECTION V. This resolution shall b be in full force and effect from and <br />after its passage by the Common Council, and its approval by the Mayor. <br />Adopted, as amended, November 20, 1978 <br />
