Clem Hazinski, Traffic Director, submitted a report concerning the proposed installation of a brighter street light at intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and.Ironwood Drive. The Engineering Department was directed to investigate a recommendation made by the Electrical Department to install a 211000 lumen street light at the above -mentioned intersection. Mr. Hazinski-reported that studies of this type could be more conclusive with such a street light in place. Mr. Hazinski recommended that this installation be made and future studies and reports,be submitted, as to whether this type of illumination solves the traffic hazard problem at this location. Gene Radecki, Electrical Department Superintendent recommended that two 6000 lumen type street lights be installed to relieve the dark condition in this area. The Board referred this request and recommendation to the City Engineer for study and further recommendation. Eugene Radecki, Electrical Department, submitted a report to the Board with reference to a proposal.from Indiana & Michigan Electric Company to replace 12 - 1,000 lumen (92) watt) underground street lights on Corby Boulevard between Niles Avenue and St. Louis Boulevard with 6 - 6,000'lumen (405;watt) overhead street lights, properly spaced as shown on an attached drawing. The present cost to the City of $24.00 per month. Under the new lighting system the cost would be 21.90 per month. The Board approved the replacement but directed Mr. Radecki to contact the residents in this area and explain the advantages of the new higher powered lighting system.
