331 <br />May 18, 1964 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was hald on Monday, May <br />18, 1964 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last <br />regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and <br />ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />HEARING: CHARGES AND FINDING - VIOLATION OF RULE 12 RULES AND <br />REGULATIONS OF POLICE DEPARTMENT ( OFFICER JERRY R SZWEDA <br />The Board of Public Safety convened at 9:00 A.M. pursuant to charges <br />filed by the Police Department against Officer Jerry R. Szweda. The <br />charges are as follows: <br />On Sunday, May 10, 1964, Officer Jerry R. Szweda did during his off <br />duty hours, become involved in a fight thereby violating Rule 12 of.. <br />the Uniform Rules and Regulations forbidding an officer to act in a <br />disorderly manner. According to the Rules and Regulations, the <br />charge in such an incident would be "Conduct Unbecoming To An Officer." <br />On the afternoon of May 12, 1964, Inspector Glenn Terry and Captain <br />Nester Stachowicz went to the home of Officer Szweda and informed him <br />that he was temporarily suspended and picked up said officer's badge <br />and gun. Officer Szweda was at this time informed that he would be <br />notified by letter as to the time he should appear before the Board <br />of Public Works & Safety. <br />Pursuant to notice, Proof of Service is contained in the record of the <br />Board of Public Safety, Officer Szweda, together with his attorney, <br />Patrick Brennan, have appeared and are present and Officer Szweda, <br />by counsel, waives service of Notice onbehalf of the officer wherefor <br />the Notice heretofore issued need not be a part of this record. <br />The Board of Public Safety having held the hearing of the Chief of <br />Police with reference to Officer Szweda Thosdoes not deny the incident <br />complained of and the Board having examined the matter now accepts <br />the recommendation of the Chief of Police and said Officer is hereby <br />suspended from the Department for a period of 15 days, effective May <br />12, 1964. Said suspension will be without pay. <br />OPENING BIDS: WEIGHTS& MEASURES DEPT ( STATION WAGON ) <br />The time now being after 10:00 A.M. it was so announced and bids were <br />opened for a station wagon for the Weights & Measures Department. <br />Proofs of Publication from The South Bend Tribune with affidavit <br />signed.by Robert DeLong and the Tri-County News with affidavit signed <br />by Alfred W. Snyder, II were found sufficient. <br />The following bids were received: <br />Jordan Motors, Inc <br />609 E. Jefferson Blvd. <br />Mishawaka, Ind. <br />1 - 1964 Ford Model Country Sedan, 119" W.B. <br />Trade: 1959 Studebaker 2 Dr. Wagon <br />Delivered price $2,174.61 <br />Bid Bond for $224.96, signed by Ralph Daveline <br />Non -Collusion Affidavit, signed by Ralph Daveline, Agent <br />Gates Chevrolet Corp. <br />333 W .
