February 24, 1964 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />February 24, 1964 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes <br />of the last regular meeting were read .and approved. --Vouchers were <br />approved and ordered paid'A o,the various suppliers. <br />AWARDING OF BID: REMODELING OF FIRE STATION NO. 4 <br />After tabulation and examination of the various bids received; and <br />since -it appears that the following is the -lowest and best bid, it <br />is the decision of the Board that the bid for remodeling of Fire <br />Station No. 14 be awarded as follows: <br />Carl J. Reinke & Sons Inc. <br />1522 W. Ford Street <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Remodeling :of; Fire-- Station -No. 4, 1240 W. Thomas Street, <br />in accordance with specifications $5,888.00 <br />APPROVAL OF SHIRT STYLE - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Comes now Fire Chief McHenry and requests approval of the Board of <br />a new type of winter sportejacket for firemen to wear while fighting <br />fires. The shirt would eliminate the necessity of wearing a necktie <br />which has proved unsatisfactory while fighting fires, due to the <br />fact that they cannot be cleaned satisfactorily and create a hazard. <br />The jacket had the approval of the Firemen's Association. <br />After inspection of the jacket, and following the recommendation of <br />Chief McHenry, the new type of jacket was approved. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT: PERMISSION TO ATTEND NATIONAL PISTOL CHAMPIONSHIP <br />MATCHES <br />Permission was granted to the following police officers to attend the <br />Mid -winter National Pistol Championship Matches in Tampa, Florida <br />from March 6., 1964 to March 18, 1964. Expenses for the trip will be <br />assumed by the St. Joseph Valley Lodge 362 Fraternal Order of Police, <br />co-sponsors of the Police Pistol Team: <br />Sgt. R. Jensen, 3rd Detail, Patrol Division <br />Cpl. R. Albright, 2nd Detail, Range Officer <br />Patrolman J. Szweda, K-9 Detail, Patrol Division <br />Patrolman J. Radecki, 2nd Detail, Patrol Division <br />Patrolman F. Szuba, k-9 Detail, Patrol Division <br />PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE: POLICE DEPARTMENT AUTOMOBILES <br />Comes now Police Chief Hampton and requests permission to advertise <br />for 15 automobiles for use of the Police Department. <br />Permission granted and Clerk of the Board requested to place advertise- <br />ments in The South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News on March 6, <br />1964, March 13, 1964. Sealed bids will be opened on March 23, 1964. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT: OFFENSES REPORTED TO POLICE DECEMBER 1963 <br />A report for December, 1963 itemizing the Offenses Reported to Police <br />was accepted by the Board and ordered placed on file. <br />APPLICATIONS: POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The following applications for the Police Department were accepted and <br />ordered placed on file: David Leon Clizbe and James Ray Kile. <br />
