2 <br />19 <br />RE_ COMPLIANCE WITH BUILDING CODE_( MRS. RICE <br />Comes now Mrs. Rice, 2922 Miami Street with reference to repairs being <br />made in the basement of her home which has heretofore been remodeled <br />into sleeping rooms and rente;d to Notre Dame Students.at this time. <br />Mrs. Rice advised the Board that she had received a permit to do this <br />remodeling several years ago. She further stated that recently in an <br />attempt to get a permit for additional plumbing work she had been told <br />that she was not complying with the Building Code inasmuch as said <br />Code prohibits sleeping rooms in a celler. The term "celler" refers <br />to rooms more than 50 percent below ground level. <br />Mr. Grabarz advised the Board that the "celler" sleeping rooms were <br />"very nice" and the home in good condition. <br />After hearing Mrs. Rice, the Board continued the case for one week <br />to allow for an investigation. <br />Ua CIVIL DEFENSE: RE: STORAGE SPACE FOR HOSPITAL.. <br />X A letter to Mayor Bruggner from John lai �ybor,'�irector of Civil <br />Defense with reference to the possibility of getting sufficient space <br />in the North Pumping Station for storage for a 200 bed hospital, was <br />submitted to the Board. <br />Mr. Klaybor requested cooperation in getting two large used refrigerators <br />for this area in the event the location is approved. <br />The Board advised that cooperation would be given in this venture. <br />The letter was accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />PETITIONS:` STREET LIGHTS ( ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT) <br />A Petition from residents of Clearview and Mayfair requested the installa- <br />tion of two street lights, if possible; one at Clearview and Scenic <br />Drive and one at Mayfair and Clearview - the first choice at Mayfair. <br />A Petition from residents of Donald and Fox Streets, submitted by <br />Councilman Lehman, requested the installation of a street light at - <br />Sampson Street between Donald and iox Streets. <br />Both petitions were referred to the Electrical Department for investiga- <br />tion and recommendation. <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEER: TRAFFIC SIGNS <br />Following the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the following <br />installations were approved: <br />Yield sign installed on York Road, northwest corner, at Jackson <br />Blvd. <br />Stop: sign, -installed on Linden, northeast corner, at Olive Street. <br />REQUEST: ATTEND CONFERENCE ( POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Police Chief Orson Harman was granted permission to attend the <br />International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference at Houston, <br />Texas from October 5 through October 10, 1963. <br />SPECIAL POLICE BONDS <br />The following Special Police Bonds,-filed'..an&z approved and ordered <br />placed on file: <br />for Special Police employed by Studebaker Corporation - Everett <br />F.
