August 12, 1963 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, August 12, 1963 at.10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. BUILDING DEPARTMENT- ( BELLEVILLE LUMBER - ERECE CANOPY Belleville Lumber Company requested permission to erect -a canopy at 1614 Prairie Avenue two feet over public property. This request was approved by the Building Department. Permission granted, provided insurance, indemnifying the City of South Bend, in the following amounts be obtained: $100)000 individual accident, $3009000 aggregate accident and $25,000 property damage. Proof of insurance should be filed with the Board. BUILDING DEPARTMENT: SUB -STANDARD DIVISION_ Comes now John Grabarz and advises the Board that he had received three bids for demolition of property located at 919 Marietta Street. The bids are as follows: B & 0 Wreckinq Co. $225.00 with salvage $250.00 without salvage _Donald F. Grimmius $245.00 with salvage $750.00 without salvage A & J Demolition $260.00 with salvage $275.00 without salvage It was the decision of the Board that the bid be awarded to B & 0 Wrecking Co., for $225.00. Comes now Fairy Lee Graham, owner of property at 1125 Burns Avenue to show cause why she has not complied with demolition order issued by the Sub -Standard Division. Mr. Charles Howell, representing Mrs. Graham, advised tha Board that he would like to inspect the premises to see what could be done with this property. After hearing all who wished to be heard, the Board continued this hearing for one week to allow for inspection and report from Mr. Howell. With reference to property located at 15262 Liston Street, owned by Sam and Clara Winston. This hearing was continued for one week. TRAFFIC ENGINEER: REPORT ON CLOSING PARKING METERS Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, submitted a written report regarding the question raised by Miss Virginia Guthrie as to the reason for closing some parking meters on Saturdays and other hours during the week. The Report was read by the Board, copy of said Report given to Miss Guthrie and Mr. Hazinski requested to meet with Miss Guthrie after the meeting to further discuss this matter. The original Report was accepted and ordered placed on file. TRAFFIC ENGINEER: LETTER - SAMPLE AND OLIVE STREETS RAILROAD CROSSING_ A letter from Mr. Thad M. Jones to the City Engineer was submitted to the Board. Mr. Jones complained about the condition of the crossing over the railroad tracks at the intersection of Sample and Olive Streets.
