August 12, 1963 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />August 12, 1963 at.10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of <br />the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were <br />approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT- ( BELLEVILLE LUMBER - ERECE CANOPY <br />Belleville Lumber Company requested permission to erect -a canopy <br />at 1614 Prairie Avenue two feet over public property. This request <br />was approved by the Building Department. <br />Permission granted, provided insurance, indemnifying the City of <br />South Bend, in the following amounts be obtained: $100)000 individual <br />accident, $3009000 aggregate accident and $25,000 property damage. <br />Proof of insurance should be filed with the Board. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT: SUB -STANDARD DIVISION_ <br />Comes now John Grabarz and advises the Board that he had received three <br />bids for demolition of property located at 919 Marietta Street. <br />The bids are as follows: <br />B & 0 Wreckinq Co. <br />$225.00 <br />with <br />salvage <br />$250.00 <br />without <br />salvage <br />_Donald F. Grimmius <br />$245.00 <br />with <br />salvage <br />$750.00 <br />without <br />salvage <br />A & J Demolition <br />$260.00 <br />with <br />salvage <br />$275.00 <br />without <br />salvage <br />It was the decision of the Board that the bid be awarded to B & 0 <br />Wrecking Co., for $225.00. <br />Comes now Fairy Lee Graham, owner of property at 1125 Burns Avenue to <br />show cause why she has not complied with demolition order issued by <br />the Sub -Standard Division. <br />Mr. Charles Howell, representing Mrs. Graham, advised tha Board that he <br />would like to inspect the premises to see what could be done with this <br />property. <br />After hearing all who wished to be heard, the Board continued this hearing <br />for one week to allow for inspection and report from Mr. Howell. <br />With reference to property located at 15262 Liston Street, owned by <br />Sam and Clara Winston. This hearing was continued for one week. <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEER: REPORT ON CLOSING PARKING METERS <br />Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, submitted a written report regarding <br />the question raised by Miss Virginia Guthrie as to the reason for closing <br />some parking meters on Saturdays and other hours during the week. <br />The Report was read by the Board, copy of said Report given to Miss <br />Guthrie and Mr. Hazinski requested to meet with Miss Guthrie after the <br />meeting to further discuss this matter. <br />The original Report was accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEER: LETTER - SAMPLE AND OLIVE STREETS RAILROAD CROSSING_ <br />A letter from Mr. Thad M. Jones to the City Engineer was submitted to <br />the Board. Mr. Jones complained about the condition of the crossing <br />over the railroad tracks at the intersection of Sample and Olive Streets. <br />
