July 22, 1963 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />July 22, 1963 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of <br />the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were <br />approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT_ REQUEST: KAGEL FLORIST. REMODELING <br />Comes now Louis Smogor, Building Commissioner, and requests permission <br />to allow Muis Construction Company to construct a 19 ft.by 62 foot <br />barricade on Michigan Street and a 13 foot by 65 foot barricade on <br />Navarre Street, thus providing a 5 foot plehk walk during remodeling <br />of Kegal Flower Shop. <br />Permission granted. <br />Mr. Smogor also requested permission to allow Kagel Flower Shop to <br />)X� erect a 3 foot, 4 inch permanent canopy on Michigan Street and <br />X Navarre Street and install three tree islands and one planter on <br />g the parkway. <br />Permission granted, provded insurance indemnifying the City of South <br />Bend be obtained. This insurance shall be a permanent policy and <br />proof of such insurance shall be filed in the Office of the Board. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT___(__CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE - KOLACZ BROS. MARKET ) <br />A Certificate of Insurance, indemnifying the City of South Bend for <br />accident or property damage, as previously ordered by the Board, was <br />submitted by Kolacz Bros. market, 2602 Western Avenue, in connection <br />with remodeling of said market. <br />The Certificate of Insurance was accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />SUB -STANDARD DIVISION: HEARINGS <br />Comes now Mr. Alex Niedbalski, with reference to property he owns on <br />1107 High Street. <br />This property has been sold on land Contract to Mr. and Mrs. Vaster Heron. <br />A damaged retaining wall must be rapaired. According to information <br />given to the Board by Mr. Niedbalski, this"retaining wall repair is <br />the responsibility of the railroad and he was advised by the Board to <br />take steps to see that this repair is made. <br />Also, it was the Board's ruling that the finding on this case as to the <br />condition of the structure on the property be "unsafe" and that a notice <br />appropriate to said finding be placed on the premises and, further, <br />that said premises shall not be occupied until it is found to be in <br />a safe condition. <br />With reference to property owned by Mrs. Glaser, located at 525 Cottage <br />Grove Avenue, Mrs. Glaser appeared before the Bbard to report that she <br />had three prospective buyers for this property and that the buyers <br />were informed that it must be brought up to standard and not be occupied <br />until it met stipulations of the building code. <br />This hearing was continued until August 26, 1963. Bids for demolishment <br />that were to have been opened at this hearing were ordered not opened. <br />Comes now Mr. Anderson Jones, owner of property located at 134 N. Olive <br />Street. Said property had been damaged by fire and time allotted to <br />bring it up to standard had expired. Mr. Anderson advised the Board <br />
