May 27, 1963 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />May 27, 1963. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and <br />approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various <br />suppliers. <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEER: TRAFFIC SIGNS <br />Following the recommendation of Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, the <br />following installations were approved: <br />No Parking signs on north side of 400 block of East Colfa)c, <br />Avenue. <br />Stop Sign installed on Oak Ridge Drive, southeast corner, at <br />Edison Road. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT: OLIVER ANNEX REPAIR <br />00 Comes Now Louis Smogor, Building Commissioner, and advises the Board <br />that repair work is being done on the Oliver Annex Building,' North <br />Main Street. <br />X. <br />Since scaffolding has been erected on the building and since there <br />is possible danger to the public, the Board authorized Mr. Smogor <br />to take all precautions necessary to protect life and property. <br />The Board directed Mr. Smogor to order a temporary roof over the <br />sidewalk and further ordered that the contractor procure insurance <br />indemnifying the City of South Bend for $100,000 individual accident <br />and $300,000 aggregate accident and $509,000 property damage. <br />Proof of Insurance should be filed with the City. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT: SUB -STANDARD DIVISION <br />Comes now Mr. Sam Bernstein, owner of property located at 16082 <br />Prairie Avenue, of his own volition, to ascertain what procedure <br />is necessary to demolish a house on the property. <br />After hearing Mr. Bernstein, the Board requested that he talk with <br />Mr. Grabarz regarding this property. <br />Comes now Mr. and Mrs. James Powers, representing Mrs. Kathryn Glaser, <br />owner of property located at 525 Cottage Grove Avenue. Also present <br />was Mr. Harry Taylor, attorney, representing Mrs. Glaser. <br />This property is sub -standard and period for completion of repair order <br />is now terminated. Mrs. Powers, daughter of Mrs. Glaser, requested <br />continuance of hearing so that property might be sold. The house is <br />presently occupied. <br />Mr. Harry Taylor, acting for and on behalf of the owner, requested a <br />vntinuance of one month. <br />Request granted with the stipulation that present occupants must vacate <br />the property as quickly as possible. <br />Hearing on this case will be continued until July 1, 1963. Condemnation <br />order will be withhold temporarily. <br />With reference to property located at 1307 w. Jefferson Boulevard, <br />Mr. Grabarz requested permission to advertise for bids of demolition. <br />Request granted, on May _-13,__196.3_meet ing. Bids received and will be <br />awarded this date. <br />
