May 27, 1963 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, May 27, 1963. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. TRAFFIC ENGINEER: TRAFFIC SIGNS Following the recommendation of Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, the following installations were approved: No Parking signs on north side of 400 block of East Colfa)c, Avenue. Stop Sign installed on Oak Ridge Drive, southeast corner, at Edison Road. BUILDING DEPARTMENT: OLIVER ANNEX REPAIR 00 Comes Now Louis Smogor, Building Commissioner, and advises the Board that repair work is being done on the Oliver Annex Building,' North Main Street. X. Since scaffolding has been erected on the building and since there is possible danger to the public, the Board authorized Mr. Smogor to take all precautions necessary to protect life and property. The Board directed Mr. Smogor to order a temporary roof over the sidewalk and further ordered that the contractor procure insurance indemnifying the City of South Bend for $100,000 individual accident and $300,000 aggregate accident and $509,000 property damage. Proof of Insurance should be filed with the City. BUILDING DEPARTMENT: SUB -STANDARD DIVISION Comes now Mr. Sam Bernstein, owner of property located at 16082 Prairie Avenue, of his own volition, to ascertain what procedure is necessary to demolish a house on the property. After hearing Mr. Bernstein, the Board requested that he talk with Mr. Grabarz regarding this property. Comes now Mr. and Mrs. James Powers, representing Mrs. Kathryn Glaser, owner of property located at 525 Cottage Grove Avenue. Also present was Mr. Harry Taylor, attorney, representing Mrs. Glaser. This property is sub -standard and period for completion of repair order is now terminated. Mrs. Powers, daughter of Mrs. Glaser, requested continuance of hearing so that property might be sold. The house is presently occupied. Mr. Harry Taylor, acting for and on behalf of the owner, requested a vntinuance of one month. Request granted with the stipulation that present occupants must vacate the property as quickly as possible. Hearing on this case will be continued until July 1, 1963. Condemnation order will be withhold temporarily. With reference to property located at 1307 w. Jefferson Boulevard, Mr. Grabarz requested permission to advertise for bids of demolition.
