April 229 1963 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, April 229 1963 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. SAFETY PROGRAM: ST . JOSEPH RIVER BOATING ACTIVITIES -The Board of Public Works & Safety directed the Traffic Engineer, the Police Department, Fire Department to work out a program for safety during river recreations during the construction of a new bridge a block north of the present Sample Street bridge. 'Because of the construction work, extra caution must be observed. FIRE DEPARTMENT4, PHYSICAL FITNESS PROGRAM The Board approved the participation in a physical fitness program by the -Fire Department, provided such program was under supervision and did not interfere with the normal duties of the Department. The Fire Chief assured the Board that the above provisions would apply. FIRE DEPARTMENT"s ST. JOE _VALLEY COUNCIL OF LITTLE LEAGUES ( USE OF FIRE STATION NO. TWO ) Permissions. was granted to the St. Joe Valley Council of Little Leagues to use Fire Station No. 2, 817 S. Lafayette Boulevard for a series of three instruction clinics for the City Little League Umpires. The clincs-will be held on Thursday, April 259 8:00 P.M.9 May-29 at 8:30 and May 99 at 8:30 P.M. ; They will be conducted by Mr. Bernie Banicti who is Chief Umpire of the area who will be assisted by Mr. George Krouitch, Umpire and Chief of the East Side Little League. It is understood that the routine of the men at Station No. 2. will not be disturbed. TRAFFIC ENGINEER: TRAFFIC SIGNS Following the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the following installations are approved: 2 - Two Hour signs installed to oover 913 S. Twyckenham Drive 2 - One Hour si.§ns to cover 251 E. Sample Street 1 - Stop sign on Monroe, southwest corner, at Olive Street 2 - Two Hour time limit signs installed on south side of East Tutt Street at 130 and 116. POLICE DEPARTMENT ( ATTEND POLICE SCHOOL - SGT. ZUBLER } Following the recommendation of Chief Harman, permission was granted Sgt. G. W. Zubler to attend the Michigan State University Police School on Race and Community Relations, East Lansing, Michigan from May 19 through May 249 1963. Sgt. Zubler has been issued a scholarship for this School. Tuition and room are includedg This is being sponsored by the NCCJ. POLICE DEPARTMENT ( ATTEND NATIONAL INSTITUTE_- SGT. HANS ) Following the recommendation of Chief Harman, permission was granted Sgt. Hans to attend the Ninth Annual National Institute on Police and Community Relations at Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan. The Institute will be held from_May_19 through May 249 1963.
