April 229 1963 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />April 229 1963 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of <br />the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were <br />approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />SAFETY PROGRAM: ST . JOSEPH RIVER BOATING ACTIVITIES <br />-The Board of Public Works & Safety directed the Traffic Engineer, the <br />Police Department, Fire Department to work out a program for safety <br />during river recreations during the construction of a new bridge <br />a block north of the present Sample Street bridge. 'Because of the <br />construction work, extra caution must be observed. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT4, PHYSICAL FITNESS PROGRAM <br />The Board approved the participation in a physical fitness program by <br />the -Fire Department, provided such program was under supervision <br />and did not interfere with the normal duties of the Department. <br />The Fire Chief assured the Board that the above provisions would <br />apply. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT"s ST. JOE _VALLEY COUNCIL OF LITTLE LEAGUES ( USE OF <br />FIRE STATION NO. TWO ) <br />Permissions. was granted to the St. Joe Valley Council of Little Leagues <br />to use Fire Station No. 2, 817 S. Lafayette Boulevard for a series <br />of three instruction clinics for the City Little League Umpires. <br />The clincs-will be held on Thursday, April 259 8:00 P.M.9 May-29 <br />at 8:30 and May 99 at 8:30 P.M. ; They will be conducted by Mr. <br />Bernie Banicti who is Chief Umpire of the area who will be assisted <br />by Mr. George Krouitch, Umpire and Chief of the East Side Little <br />League. <br />It is understood that the routine of the men at Station No. 2. will <br />not be disturbed. <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEER: TRAFFIC SIGNS <br />Following the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the following <br />installations are approved: <br />2 - Two Hour signs installed to oover 913 S. Twyckenham Drive <br />2 - One Hour si.§ns to cover 251 E. Sample Street <br />1 - Stop sign on Monroe, southwest corner, at Olive Street <br />2 - Two Hour time limit signs installed on south side of East Tutt <br />Street at 130 and 116. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT ( ATTEND POLICE SCHOOL - SGT. ZUBLER } <br />Following the recommendation of Chief Harman, permission was granted <br />Sgt. G. W. Zubler to attend the Michigan State University Police <br />School on Race and Community Relations, East Lansing, Michigan from <br />May 19 through May 249 1963. <br />Sgt. Zubler has been issued a scholarship for this School. Tuition and <br />room are includedg This is being sponsored by the NCCJ. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT ( ATTEND NATIONAL INSTITUTE_- SGT. HANS ) <br />Following <br />the recommendation of Chief Harman, permission was granted <br />Sgt. Hans to attend the Ninth Annual National Institute on Police and <br />Community Relations at Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan. <br />The Institute will be held from_May_19 through May 249 1963. <br />
