February 18, 1963 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />February 18, 1963 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes <br />of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vbuchers were <br />approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION HEARINGS <br />Comes now Joseph Ettl, attorney representing George A. Stark, 1233 <br />VanBuren Street with reference to property owned by Mr. Stark at <br />320-322 W. Marion Street. <br />Mr. Stark had been asked to appear to show cause why repair orders <br />issued in September, 1959 had never been complied with. Dfmol.ition', <br />order was issued in January of 1963. <br />Mr. Ettl requested a continuance of this hearing and an extension <br />of time in which to repair the structure because of undue hardship <br />caused by serious illness in the family of the owner. <br />LO <br />After hearing Mr. Ettl and Mr. Grabarz, it was the decision of the <br />Board to grant an extension of six months rather than nine months <br />requested by Mr. Ettl. <br />Hearing will be set for August 19, 1963 at which time all repair <br />work must be completed. <br />Comes now Councilman CHnester Muszynski, with a Petition from residents <br />of the Chicago Street area to remonstrate against the moving of any <br />house that does not comply with the homes in the district or within <br />the -Building Code to any vacant lot on North Sheridan, Chicago Street <br />or Illinois Street. <br />This remonstrance concerns the moving of a house from 261 N. Chicago <br />Street to the lot north of 142 N. Chicago Street. <br />Mr. Muszynski was informed that an owner has 60 days in which to bring <br />house up to standard. <br />Comes now Mr. Willis Devine, owner of the house in question and states <br />that the severe weather had made it impossible to do necessary excavation <br />work. i <br />Mr. Fred Forsey appeared before the Board to remonstrate against.said <br />house move. He further claimed that Mr. Devine was the owner of two <br />sub -standard houses, one located at 3500 block W. Washington Avenue and <br />the other at 109 S. Liberty Street, and that those dwellingsfedbeen <br />on these sites for several years and had not yet been brought up to <br />standard. <br />Mr. Grabarz informed the Board that he was not aware of the condition of <br />the houses on W.-Washington Avenue or S. Liberty Street. <br />After hearing all who wished to be heard, it was the decision of the <br />Board that Mr. Grabarz make a thorough investigation and report findings. <br />The case is continued for one week. <br />With reference to the property located at 607 W. Wayne Street, owned by <br />Mr. Binder, Mr. Grabarz reported that the repair work ordered completed <br />by this date had been done and that all that appeared to remain was <br />"housecleaning." He further informed the Board that he would make a <br />personal inspection later in the da* to ascertain that all orders had <br />been carried out. <br />
