December 31, 1962 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, December <br />319 1962 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular <br />meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid <br />to the various suppliers. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ( HEARINGS) <br />Comes now Mr. Theodore Prekowitz; attorney, representing Mr. Joseph Binder, <br />owner of property located at 607 W. Wayne Streit, as ordered by the Board, <br />to show cause why':.this-Lioiopprty:.he3 not been brought up to standard. <br />Mr. Charles S. Sandor, Inspector with the Sub -Standard Division of the <br />Building Department, informed the Board that an inspection of the property <br />revealed that approximately one-third of the front of the house had been <br />covered with aluminum siding. <br />After hearing all paxties, the Board made the following decision: <br />Mr. Binder was ordered to post $19000 in cash with the Board.'of Public Works <br />& Safety, at its office in the City Hall by 4:30 P.M. Wednesday, January <br />29 1963. After posting $11,000 in cash, Mr. Binder will be allowed until <br />February 18, 1963 to have property brought up to standard in accordance <br />with the requirements of the Building Department, or cash is forfeited. <br />If Mr. Binder does not post the $1,000 as directed by 4:30 P.M. on Wednesday, <br />January 2, 19621, the Building Department, Sub -Standard Division is ordered <br />to proceed with demolition 6n,Tharsday0 January 3, 1963. <br />Comes nor Mr. Louis Smogor, Building Commissioner, with reference to property <br />located at 202 S. Scott Street, owned by Mr. Vern Bbridge, <br />According to the Sub -Standard Division, demolition work was started on <br />this property on September 25, 1962. After a short period of time, all <br />work was stopped by Mr. David Jamison, wrecker. <br />Mr. Smogor reported that this property is a hazard, both for fire and injuries. <br />Since Mr. Burbridge is anxious to comply with orders of the Building Department <br />and the Board, it was the decision of the Board that the Building Department <br />assist him to hire a contractor to proceed with this work. <br />Case continued for thirty days. <br />With reference to property located at 513-515 Pennsylvania Avenue, owned by <br />Miss Pearl Daar, Mr. Charles S. Sandor, of the Sub -Standard Division of the <br />Building Department reported that the following bids had been received for <br />demolition: <br />A & J Demolition <br />318 O'Brien St. <br />South Bend, Ind. <br />Virgil Towne <br />Elkhart, Ind. <br />$550.00 with salvage <br />675.00 without salvage <br />$300.00 with salvage <br />450.00 without salvage. <br />The Board directed that the bid be awarded to A & J Demolition for $550.00. <br />With reference to property located at 311 E.
