December 31, 1962 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, December 319 1962 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ( HEARINGS) Comes now Mr. Theodore Prekowitz; attorney, representing Mr. Joseph Binder, owner of property located at 607 W. Wayne Streit, as ordered by the Board, to show cause why':.this-Lioiopprty:.he3 not been brought up to standard. Mr. Charles S. Sandor, Inspector with the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department, informed the Board that an inspection of the property revealed that approximately one-third of the front of the house had been covered with aluminum siding. After hearing all paxties, the Board made the following decision: Mr. Binder was ordered to post $19000 in cash with the Board.'of Public Works & Safety, at its office in the City Hall by 4:30 P.M. Wednesday, January 29 1963. After posting $11,000 in cash, Mr. Binder will be allowed until February 18, 1963 to have property brought up to standard in accordance with the requirements of the Building Department, or cash is forfeited. If Mr. Binder does not post the $1,000 as directed by 4:30 P.M. on Wednesday, January 2, 19621, the Building Department, Sub -Standard Division is ordered to proceed with demolition 6n,Tharsday0 January 3, 1963. Comes nor Mr. Louis Smogor, Building Commissioner, with reference to property located at 202 S. Scott Street, owned by Mr. Vern Bbridge, According to the Sub -Standard Division, demolition work was started on this property on September 25, 1962. After a short period of time, all work was stopped by Mr. David Jamison, wrecker. Mr. Smogor reported that this property is a hazard, both for fire and injuries. Since Mr. Burbridge is anxious to comply with orders of the Building Department and the Board, it was the decision of the Board that the Building Department assist him to hire a contractor to proceed with this work. Case continued for thirty days. With reference to property located at 513-515 Pennsylvania Avenue, owned by Miss Pearl Daar, Mr. Charles S. Sandor, of the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department reported that the following bids had been received for demolition: A & J Demolition 318 O'Brien St. South Bend, Ind. Virgil Towne Elkhart, Ind. $550.00 with salvage 675.00 without salvage $300.00 with salvage 450.00 without salvage. The Board directed that the bid be awarded to A & J Demolition for $550.00. With reference to property located at 311 E. Paris Street, the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department representative reported that only one - bid for demolition was received for this property.
