November 13, 1962 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Tuesday, <br />November 13, 1962 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of <br />the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved <br />and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />DISABILITY PENSION - FIRE DEPARTMENT ,( E. E. LUZNY <br />Following the recommendation of the Firemen's Pension Fund and the <br />recommendation of the medical examiner, Fireman Eugene Edward Luzny was <br />granted a disability pension from the Fire Department, effective November <br />16, 1962. <br />RULING: LONGEVITY PAY ( KENNETH TUBS ) <br />It appearing to the Board that Kenneth Tubbs, a member of the South Bend <br />Fire Department, either terminated his employment or took a leave of absence <br />00 on the 5th day of April,1946 and, further, it appearing -to the Board <br />that subsequently on thel2th day of July' 1947 said Kenneth Tubbs terminated <br />his leave and resumed his occupation with the Fire Department, and further, <br />it appearing to the Board that his longevity pay has been effected, the <br />Board now finds that the date of his first employment shall be the beginning <br />of his tenure a;nd1 that .the period of said leave shall be included as <br />longevity and that said Keiirieth.Tubbs shall be entitled to longevity pay <br />based upon said tenure. <br />Dv"wi Yt7 LCar, lmi icm -\ twrayVKL Vr t,miurz - CIHRVCL znyo. J <br />Comes now Russell Aulm, Contractor for Harvel Bros., and requests permission <br />to erect a canopy extending over public property 18 inches on a new <br />building at 714 E. LaSalle Avenue. <br />After examination of the plans for said canopy and building, the Board <br />approved said erectionp provided all provisions of the Building Department <br />are met and that insurance indemnifying the City of South Bend for $100,000 <br />Individual accident, $300p000 aggregate accident and $25,000 personal <br />property. Said insurance shall be perpetual and Proof of Insurance shall <br />be on file in the Office of the Board. <br />SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ( READVERTISE FOR DEMOLITION I <br />Comes now John Grabarz of the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Depart- <br />ment and requests permission to readvertise for demolition of property <br />located at 616-616f N. Hill Street. Mr. Grabarz informed that bord that <br />advertisement previously run had resulted in one bid that was submitted <br />incorrectly. <br />Permission granted to readvertise. <br />Mr. Grabarz reported that Melvin Taylor, owner of property located at 830 <br />S. Rush Street had failed to appear to show cause why demolition has not <br />been completed on the above -described property. <br />The Board directed Mr. Grabarz to prooedd to advertise for bids for <br />demolition. <br />With reference to property located at 326 Lincolnway East, Mr. Grabarz <br />informed the Board that Mr. Nicholas Cholis, attorney for this property, <br />had failed to appear. Mr. Grabarz was directed to start dondemnation <br />proceedings on this property owned by Mr. Peak. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT <br />A monthly report for the month of October, 1962 from the Building Department <br />was accepted and ordered placed on file <br />
