November 13, 1962 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Tuesday, November 13, 1962 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. DISABILITY PENSION - FIRE DEPARTMENT ,( E. E. LUZNY Following the recommendation of the Firemen's Pension Fund and the recommendation of the medical examiner, Fireman Eugene Edward Luzny was granted a disability pension from the Fire Department, effective November 16, 1962. RULING: LONGEVITY PAY ( KENNETH TUBS ) It appearing to the Board that Kenneth Tubbs, a member of the South Bend Fire Department, either terminated his employment or took a leave of absence 00 on the 5th day of April,1946 and, further, it appearing -to the Board that subsequently on thel2th day of July' 1947 said Kenneth Tubbs terminated his leave and resumed his occupation with the Fire Department, and further, it appearing to the Board that his longevity pay has been effected, the Board now finds that the date of his first employment shall be the beginning of his tenure a;nd1 that .the period of said leave shall be included as longevity and that said Keiirieth.Tubbs shall be entitled to longevity pay based upon said tenure. J Comes now Russell Aulm, Contractor for Harvel Bros., and requests permission to erect a canopy extending over public property 18 inches on a new building at 714 E. LaSalle Avenue. After examination of the plans for said canopy and building, the Board approved said erectionp provided all provisions of the Building Department are met and that insurance indemnifying the City of South Bend for $100,000 Individual accident, $300p000 aggregate accident and $25,000 personal property. Said insurance shall be perpetual and Proof of Insurance shall be on file in the Office of the Board. SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ( READVERTISE FOR DEMOLITION I Comes now John Grabarz of the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Depart- ment and requests permission to readvertise for demolition of property located at 616-616f N. Hill Street. Mr. Grabarz informed that bord that advertisement previously run had resulted in one bid that was submitted incorrectly. Permission granted to readvertise. Mr. Grabarz reported that Melvin Taylor, owner of property located at 830 S. Rush Street had failed to appear to show cause why demolition has not been completed on the above -described property. The Board directed Mr. Grabarz to prooedd to advertise for bids for demolition. With reference to property located at 326 Lincolnway East, Mr. Grabarz informed the Board that Mr. Nicholas Cholis, attorney for this property, had failed to appear. Mr. Grabarz was directed to start dondemnation proceedings on this property owned by Mr. Peak. BUILDING DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT A monthly report for the month of October, 1962 from the Building Department was accepted and ordered placed on file
