Im <br />October 8, 1962 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />October 81 1962 at 10s00 A.M. Messrs. R. S. Andrysiak and Edwin L. <br />Davies were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read <br />and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various <br />suppliers. <br />APPOINTMENTS - HOLI,CCE DEPARTMENT <br />The following applicants9 having fulfilled all the requirements of the <br />Police Pension Fund, and having passed all required physical examinations, <br />and having been recommended by the Chief of the Police Department, are <br />now appointed to the Police Department of the City of South Bends by <br />the Board: Applicants received copies of Rules and Regulations of Departm nt. <br />Edward Isaac Friend <br />1743 Southeast Drive <br />Brace Richard Stickley <br />1705 Twyckenham Drive. <br />The appointments are to become effective October.169 1962. <br />RE: POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS LONGEVITY PAY <br />Chief of Police Harman reported that he and Fire Chief Alex Andrzejewski <br />had a meeting to determine whether both departments were computing their <br />longevity pay on the same scale. <br />The Police Officers are paid longevity according to the number of years <br />they have accredited in the Police Pension Fund. <br />This is also true for the Fire Department. Howevery the Fire Department <br />has a ruling pending to determine if a member of the Fire Pension Fund <br />quits and is reappointed, his previous service is counted toward his <br />pension. <br />The Fire Pension Board has held in the past that a Fireman must have <br />continuous service to get accredited years in the Pension Fund. <br />The Board ruled that this matter be referred to the City Attcr ney for <br />interpretation and decision. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT <br />A report for the month of August, 1962 from the Police Department wss <br />accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT ( AwERTISE FOR CARS ) <br />Permission was granted to the Fire Chief to draw up specifications and <br />have advertisements placed in The South Bend Tribune and The Record for <br />two cars for the use of the Department. The Board was assured that <br />there is sufficient money in the budget for this purchase. <br />Advertisements will be placed in The Tribune and The Record on October <br />19, 1962, October 26, 1962. Sealed bids will be opened at 10:00 A.M. <br />on October 29, 1962. <br />REQUEST: MENTAL HEALTH "PRESENT - _FOR PATIENTS" USE OF FIRE STATIONS <br />Mrs. E. E. Hupp, South Bend,Chairman of the St. Joseph County Mental <br />Health Association's annual "Presents for Patients Program" to provide <br />gifts,for patients at Norman Beatty Hospital, requested the use of <br />fir stations as collecting stations for gifts. <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />
