Im October 8, 1962 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, October 81 1962 at 10s00 A.M. Messrs. R. S. Andrysiak and Edwin L. Davies were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. APPOINTMENTS - HOLI,CCE DEPARTMENT The following applicants9 having fulfilled all the requirements of the Police Pension Fund, and having passed all required physical examinations, and having been recommended by the Chief of the Police Department, are now appointed to the Police Department of the City of South Bends by the Board: Applicants received copies of Rules and Regulations of Departm nt. Edward Isaac Friend 1743 Southeast Drive Brace Richard Stickley 1705 Twyckenham Drive. The appointments are to become effective October.169 1962. RE: POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS LONGEVITY PAY Chief of Police Harman reported that he and Fire Chief Alex Andrzejewski had a meeting to determine whether both departments were computing their longevity pay on the same scale. The Police Officers are paid longevity according to the number of years they have accredited in the Police Pension Fund. This is also true for the Fire Department. Howevery the Fire Department has a ruling pending to determine if a member of the Fire Pension Fund quits and is reappointed, his previous service is counted toward his pension. The Fire Pension Board has held in the past that a Fireman must have continuous service to get accredited years in the Pension Fund. The Board ruled that this matter be referred to the City Attcr ney for interpretation and decision. POLICE DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT A report for the month of August, 1962 from the Police Department wss accepted and ordered placed on file. FIRE DEPARTMENT ( AwERTISE FOR CARS ) Permission was granted to the Fire Chief to draw up specifications and have advertisements placed in The South Bend Tribune and The Record for two cars for the use of the Department. The Board was assured that there is sufficient money in the budget for this purchase. Advertisements will be placed in The Tribune and The Record on October 19, 1962, October 26, 1962. Sealed bids will be opened at 10:00 A.M. on October 29, 1962. REQUEST: MENTAL HEALTH "PRESENT - _FOR PATIENTS" USE OF FIRE STATIONS Mrs. E. E. Hupp, South Bend,Chairman of the St. Joseph County Mental Health Association's annual "Presents for Patients Program" to provide gifts,for patients at Norman Beatty Hospital, requested the use of fir stations as collecting stations for gifts. 1 1 1
