a <br />LEAVE OF ABSENCE - ACTIVE DUTY ( INSP. HUNT ) - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Permission was granted to Inspector R. Hunt of the Police Department, <br />to attend Annual Active Duty as Commanding Officer of domppny B. 12th <br />Special Force Group, 1st Special Forces from August 5 to August 18, <br />1962 at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. <br />ELIMINATION OF POLICE PHONES <br />Comes now Chief of Police Harman and submits a list fo the Board for <br />elimination of certain emergency police phones as an economy measure. <br />At present there are 75 boxes in service. The new list eliminates <br />34 of the present 75, thus leaving 41 boxes in service. <br />The list was examined by the Board, accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND AWARD ( NATIONAL VEHICLE SAFETY CHECK ) <br />Chief of Police Harman submitted s telegram addressed to Officer S. Re' <br />McGee of the Police Department stating that the City of South Bend is-:. <br />the recipient of a national award of excellence for cities of 100-300,000 <br />population in the nation. This award was given by the National Vehicle <br />Safety Check. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT <br />A report for the month of June, 1962 from the Police Department was <br />accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />APPLICATION: POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />An application from Donald John Wlodarek for the Police Department was <br />accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />GERMAN TOWNSHIP FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACT <br />A Contract for Fire Protection for German Township was submitted to the <br />Board for signatures. The Contract covers fire protection for the year <br />1962 . This Agreement was submitted to German Township in January, 1962 <br />for ratification by the Advisory Board of German Township. <br />It has now been ratified by the Advisory Board, approved by the Board <br />of Public Works & Safety and ordered placed on file. <br />APPROVAL OF PENSION ( FIRE DEPARTMENT - L. M. HEDL ) <br />Following the recommendation of the Firemen's Pension Fund President <br />and upon the advice of Dr. R. W. Spenner, medical examiner, the Board <br />approved a disability pension for Fireman Louis Michael Hedl, effective <br />August 1, 1962. <br />PETITION: STREET LIGHT <br />A petition for a Street Light at 1715 Sterling Drive was referred to <br />the Electrical Department for investigation and report. <br />STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS <br />Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ( BID TO DEMOLISH ) <br />Comes now John Grabarz, Director of the Sub -Standard Division of the <br />Building Department, and advises the Board that he had placed advertisement <br />for bids to demolish structure located at 502 29th Street. <br />Mr. Grabarz reported that he had received one bid only and that, in <br />his opinion, this bid was too high. He requested permission to re- . <br />advertise and permission was granted. <br />
