6, G <br />July 300 1962 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was,held on Monday, <br />July 30, 1962 at 10:00 A.M. DST. All members were present. Minutes <br />of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were <br />approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION: CHANGES IN PARKING METER ZONES AND RATES <br />The following Resolution was adopted by the Board and will be submitted <br />to the South Bend Common Council for ratification: <br />WHEREAS, it has been determined by a traffic survey that dertain <br />changes be made in the parking meter zones and rates; and <br />WHEREAS, a thorough investigation has been made by the various <br />departments of the city involved in parking meters and traffic studied <br />�a <br />as to said survey and said change, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Public Works & Safety: <br />1. That all 36 minute zones be raised to one hour. <br />2. That the rate for the one hour zones shall be five cents <br />per half-hour and ten cents per hour. <br />3. That said meters shall use nickels only. <br />4. That the charge in all two hour zones shall be five cents <br />per hour. <br />5• That attached hereto and made a part hereof are the time <br />limit changes for parking meters in the downtown area. <br />That after said adoption by the Board of Public Works & Safety, this <br />resolution shall be submitted to the .South Bend Common Council for <br />ratification. <br />,IRVING J. ANDRYSIAK <br />List for changes for parking meters - time limits and charges in downtown <br />area submitted to the Board, accepted and ordered placed on file. (List <br />of these meters contained in Minutes of the Board of Public Works & Safety <br />meeting of this date, Vol. 20, Page 280.) <br />A letter from R. G. Maughan, Chief Engineer for Grand Trunk Western <br />Railroad Company to the City of South Bend, advised that due to a <br />reduction in switching operations in the vicinity of Sample and Olive <br />Streets, the railroad <is eliminating two tracks across these streets. <br />To improve the crossing protection, the railroad is probressing with <br />installation of an additional cantilevered flashing -light signal and <br />two half -roadway gates as shown on the attached plan. The protection <br />will all be manually controlled 24 hours daily from the existing GTW <br />tower. <br />After examination, this plan was approved by the Board, copies ordered <br />returned to the railroad and letter and copy of Plan ordered placed on <br />file in the Office of the Board. <br />
