6, G July 300 1962 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was,held on Monday, July 30, 1962 at 10:00 A.M. DST. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION: CHANGES IN PARKING METER ZONES AND RATES The following Resolution was adopted by the Board and will be submitted to the South Bend Common Council for ratification: WHEREAS, it has been determined by a traffic survey that dertain changes be made in the parking meter zones and rates; and WHEREAS, a thorough investigation has been made by the various departments of the city involved in parking meters and traffic studied �a as to said survey and said change, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Public Works & Safety: 1. That all 36 minute zones be raised to one hour. 2. That the rate for the one hour zones shall be five cents per half-hour and ten cents per hour. 3. That said meters shall use nickels only. 4. That the charge in all two hour zones shall be five cents per hour. 5• That attached hereto and made a part hereof are the time limit changes for parking meters in the downtown area. That after said adoption by the Board of Public Works & Safety, this resolution shall be submitted to the .South Bend Common Council for ratification. ,IRVING J. SMITH, CHAIRMAN kDWIN L.. (List of these meters contained in Minutes of the Board of Public Works & Safety meeting of this date, Vol. 20, Page 280.) A letter from R. G. Maughan, Chief Engineer for Grand Trunk Western Railroad Company to the City of South Bend, advised that due to a reduction in switching operations in the vicinity of Sample and Olive Streets, the railroad <is eliminating two tracks across these streets. To improve the crossing protection, the railroad is probressing with installation of an additional cantilevered flashing -light signal and two half -roadway gates as shown on the attached plan. The protection will all be manually controlled 24 hours daily from the existing GTW tower. After examination, this plan was approved by the Board, copies ordered returned to the railroad and letter and copy of Plan ordered placed on file in the Office of the Board.
