1 44 <br />1 <br />May 2B1, 1962 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />May 28, 1962 at 10:00 A.M. DST. Messrs. Andrysiak and Smith were <br />present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. <br />Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the. various suppliers.' <br />RAILROAD SLRVEY REPORT - TRAFFIC ENGINEER <br />Comes now Clem Hazinski, Traffic tngineerg and submits his report on <br />the Railroad Survey which the Board directed him to make. <br />In the report, the following phases were covered: <br />I. Chicago,, South Shore & South Bend Railroad <br />A meeting held with officials and engineers reference permanent <br />repair of South Shore trains between Michigan Street and the West <br />City Limits was held. Recommendation was made to replace paving <br />along the right-of-way with permanent type cedar planking. A <br />letter from W. P. Coleton, President and general Manager, indicated <br />that they are planning permanent repairs. <br />2. New York Central Railroad <br />Mr. Charles J. Barnydt, Division Engineer of tracks stated that <br />crossings at Robinson, Caroline, Twyckenham and Leer Streets <br />will be permanently repaired by re-laying tracks, replacing ties <br />and asphalt to provide for a smoother and safer crossings by <br />vehicles. Work along this line has begun. <br />A letter was sent to Mr. W. Baerthlein, Division Engineer at <br />Chicago Office requesting the crossing on Lincolnway West just <br />west of Wilbur Street be given prompt attention. <br />3. tennsvlvania Railroad <br />Most repairs of their crossings have been completed in accordance <br />with recommendations of this Department. <br />4. New Jerseys --Indiana and Illinois -,Railroad <br />Recommended repairs completed. Some permanent repairs will be <br />delayed until appropriations of funds are provided for in their <br />budget. <br />5. Grand Trunk Railroad <br />Most recommended repairs have been made. <br />6. Michigan Central Railroad <br />Phase one of a four phase program of permanent repair in the 600 <br />block of Niles Avenue has been completed. Work will continue <br />throughout the summer on this project until all rails have been <br />removed, replaced and new ties and surface permanently repaired. <br />Mr. Hazinski requested permission to order barricades placed on streets <br />as a safety factor, during this South Shore repair program. The Board <br />authorized Mr. Hazinski to take all steps necessary to expedite this <br />work and commended Mr. Hazinski on his excellent work in connection <br />with this Survey. <br />ATTEND SCHOOL ( TRAFFIC ENGINEER - CITY ELECTRICAL DEPT. PERSONNEL ) <br />Clem Hazinski requested permission to send two City Electrical Department <br />employees to the Crouse -Hinds Traffic Signal Controller School in <br />Indianapolis on June 5 and 6, 1962.
