2 1. <br />April 22 1962 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />April 2, 1962 at 10:00 A.M. CST. All members were present. Minutes <br />of the last regular meeting and the meeting of March 19, 1962 were <br />read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the <br />various suppliers. <br />PETITION: RE- JUNK YARD MICHIANA AUTO SALVA E) <br />Comes now Chester Muszynski, Councilman 6th istrict and Chester <br />Ladewski, Councilman -at -Large, with a Petition from pesidents of <br />an area in the vicinity of 1906 S. Olive Street. Said petitioners <br />request the Board to take action to stop Mr. Weaver of Michiana Auto <br />Salvages located at 1906 S. Olive Street from forming a junkyard at the <br />above address. This property, according to the petitioners, is zoned <br />"D" Light Industrial which does not permit junkyards. The petitioners <br />also state that Mr. Weaver is also using property in the 1900 Block <br />Phillipa for parking Semi -Tractors and Trailers. This property is <br />zoned "B" Residential. The Petition also alleges that there are tractors <br />parked on parkways and two alleys which are City property; and there <br />-is an 3 ft. fence approximately 3 ft. in a public alley. <br />The Board informed the Councilmen that this matter is being investigated <br />and has already been investigated by the Fire Department and the Dept. has been <br />directed to take whatever .action is necessary if operations are in <br />violations of City Codes, and owner will be notified to cease and desist <br />forthwith if there are violations. <br />The matter has been brought to the attention of the Building Department <br />to bring these matters to the attention of the proper authorities. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT <br />Comes now Verner Lane, Building Commissioners, and requests permission <br />to attend Indiana Inspectors' School, at University of Notre Dame on <br />April 24, and April 259 1962. ,Mr. Lane also requests permission for <br />9 inspectors in the Building Department to attend this School, using <br />staggering shifts. Mr. Lane reported that there is sufficient funds <br />in the budget for this project. <br />Permission granted. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB-STAINDARD DIVISION ( HEARING) <br />Comes now John Grabarz, Director of the Sub -Standard Division of the <br />Building Department with reference to a hearing scheduled for this <br />date concerning property located at 1721 N. Elmer Street. <br />Mr. Grabarz requested that this case be continued for one week, or until <br />April 99 1962 to allow owner more time to make proper arrangements for <br />disposition of property involved. <br />Permission granted. <br />RE: USE OF CITY PROPERTY ( WESTERN AND MICHIGAN ) <br />The matter of the use of city owned property located at Western and <br />Michigan Streets came before the Board, ln:the..past this property has <br />been used for_rking and also as a flower stand, and the City has <br />been requested` d--_le.ap "said property to private party for like purposes. <br />The matter was turned over to Mr. Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, to <br />investigate and ascertainkto what use this land can be put so as not to <br />interfere with traffic. <br />
