January 22, 1962 <br />A regular meeting of <br />the Board of Public <br />Safety was held on Monday, <br />January 22, 1962 at <br />10:00 A.M. CST. All <br />members were present. Minutes <br />of the last regular <br />meeting were read and <br />approved. Vouchers were <br />approved and ordered <br />paid to the various <br />suppliers. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT <br />( ATTEND CONFERENCE <br />Comes now Verner Lane, <br />Building Department Commissioner, and requests <br />permission to attend <br />a Building Officials <br />Conference of America symposium <br />to be held at Forest <br />Products Laboratory, <br />Madison, Wisconsin on January <br />28, 1962. Mr. Lane <br />is to be a speaker at <br />the conference. <br />Permission granted' to attend conference from January 28 to February 1. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT RE: HOUSE MOVES REGULATION <br />With reference to regulations concerning notification of parties involved <br />in house moves, At. Verner land requested permission to notify such <br />parties of an impending house mgve by a personal call by a member of the <br />X Buildini Department as well as by certified mail, return receipt <br />4r requested. This would, in many cases, be more convenient and more <br />economical. <br />Permission granted. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ( HEARINGS) <br />Comes now John Grabarz, Director of the Sub -Standard Division of the <br />Building Department and Nicholas Chollis, attorney for owner of property, <br />commonly known as 512 W. Washington Avenue. Mr. Grabarz reported that <br />the property had not been torn down. Mr. Chollis reported that he was <br />serving as guardian for owner who was incompetent and that Guardianship <br />papers were in the process of being completed. <br />A continuance was granted for 60 days. <br />With reference to a hearing on a case involving property located at <br />1705 S. Jackson, owned by Judge Lloyd Allen and Harry Taylor, a request <br />to continue this hearing until March 26, 1962 was granted. <br />A request to continue a hearing on property located at 2124 W. Washington, <br />owned by Mr. and Mrs. H. Rogers was granted. <br />Case continued until March 26, 1962. <br />A request to continue a hearing on property located at 1147 N. Johnson <br />Street was granted. <br />Case continued until February 26, 1962. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( NEWBILL BARB-QUE PIT) <br />Comes now Rozell Newbill and requests permission to erect a Bar-B-Que <br />Pit on property located at 1233 W. Washington Avenue. Mr. Newbill <br />submitted a sketch showing the location of the Pit with 12" pipe <br />extending over city property. <br />After examination by the Building Department and the Board, permission <br />was granted, subject to Mr. Newbill securing insurance as follows: <br />$1009000 individual accident, $3009000 aggregate accident, $25,000 <br />property damage, all indemnifying the City of South Bend: Mr. Newbill <br />was also directed to comply with all regulations of the Building Department. <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEER( ATTEND MEETING RE: CIVIL DEFENSE) <br />Comes now Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, and requests permission to <br />attend a meeting of the Instil ute-of Traffic Engineers in Indianapolis <br />
