PARENT, Mayor <br />COUNTY -CITY BUILDING SOUTH BEND, INDIANA 46601 <br />November 19, 1980 <br />Members of the Common Council <br />441 County /City Building <br />South Bend, IN 46601 <br />Dear Council Members: <br />Attached is a resolution authorizing the Mayor to submit <br />an application for a Governor's Discretionary Grant in <br />the amount of $42,620.00 to the Indiana Office of Occu- <br />pational Development. The Governor's Discretionary Fund <br />is part of the Comprehensive Employment and Training <br />Act and is being used to strengthen the links between <br />economic development activities and CETA efforts to Dro- <br />vide employment for low to moderate income individuals. <br />The Department of Redevelopment intends to use the grant <br />to provide staff and support services for the purpose of <br />carrying out economic development activities which will <br />create new jobs in South Bend. The staff will also work <br />closely with the Department of Redevelopment's Targeted <br />Jobs Coordinator to see that a portion of these new jobs <br />are filled by low to moderate income individuals. <br />We feel that this grant will enable the City of South <br />Bend to continue its aQ4ressive efforts to continue to <br />improve our economy. <br />I urge your favorable consideration of this resolution. <br />AK:amc <br />Attachment <br />Sincerely, <br />Ann Kolata <br />Director <br />
