RESOLUTION NO. 837 -80 <br />A RESOLUTION FOR THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SUB- <br />MIT AN APPLICATION FOR A GOVERNOR'S DISCRETIONARY <br />GRANT, UNDER THE COMPREHENSIVE EMPLOYMENT AND TRAIN- <br />ING ACT, THROUGH THE INDIANA OFFICE OF OCCUPATIONAL <br />DEVELOPMENT, <br />WHEREAS, the City of South Bend, acting through the Office of the Mayor <br />and the Common Council, has aggressively and successfully sought to improve <br />South Bend's economy by initiating and supporting economic development projects <br />which increase the City's tax base, job opportunities, and local incomes; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of South Bend, acting through the Office of the Mayor <br />and Common Council, has aggressively and successfully sought out federal assist- <br />ance to support local efforts and to supplement local resources; and <br />WHEREAS, the purpose of the Governor's Discretionary Fund is to strengthen <br />the links between economic development activities and CETA efforts to provide <br />employment for low to moderate income persons; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of South Bend would like to implement a development <br />packaging and job targeting mechanism to be utilized principally in economic <br />development activities that have a substantial potential for job creation; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor is the chief executive officer of the City, and is <br />the applicant for a Governor's Discretionary Grant through the Indiana Office <br />of Occupational Development. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of <br />South Bend, Indiana: <br />SECTION I: Hereby establishes the authority of the Mayor of the City <br />of South Bend to submit an application for funds in the amount of Forty -two <br />Thousand Six Hundred Twenty Dollars ($42,620.00) to the Governor's Discretionary <br />Fund through the Indiana Office of Occupational Development. <br />SECTION II: Hereby designates the Department of Redevelopment as the <br />Administrative Agent for the program. <br />SECTION III: This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and <br />after its adoption by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />PRESENTED l % _�2 <br />NOT APPROVED <br />ADOPTED j / —'?
