RESOLUTION NO. 837 -80 A RESOLUTION FOR THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SUB- MIT AN APPLICATION FOR A GOVERNOR'S DISCRETIONARY GRANT, UNDER THE COMPREHENSIVE EMPLOYMENT AND TRAIN- ING ACT, THROUGH THE INDIANA OFFICE OF OCCUPATIONAL DEVELOPMENT, WHEREAS, the City of South Bend, acting through the Office of the Mayor and the Common Council, has aggressively and successfully sought to improve South Bend's economy by initiating and supporting economic development projects which increase the City's tax base, job opportunities, and local incomes; and WHEREAS, the City of South Bend, acting through the Office of the Mayor and Common Council, has aggressively and successfully sought out federal assist- ance to support local efforts and to supplement local resources; and WHEREAS, the purpose of the Governor's Discretionary Fund is to strengthen the links between economic development activities and CETA efforts to provide employment for low to moderate income persons; and WHEREAS, the City of South Bend would like to implement a development packaging and job targeting mechanism to be utilized principally in economic development activities that have a substantial potential for job creation; and WHEREAS, the Mayor is the chief executive officer of the City, and is the applicant for a Governor's Discretionary Grant through the Indiana Office of Occupational Development. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana: SECTION I: Hereby establishes the authority of the Mayor of the City of South Bend to submit an application for funds in the amount of Forty -two Thousand Six Hundred Twenty Dollars ($42,620.00) to the Governor's Discretionary Fund through the Indiana Office of Occupational Development. SECTION II: Hereby designates the Department of Redevelopment as the Administrative Agent for the program.
