SOUTH BEND, IN <br />The Office of the City Clerk <br />From: Council Member Tim Scott, Information & Technology (IT) Committee Chairperson <br />Date: December 27, 2016 <br />2016 Annual Report of the Information & Technology Committee <br />Pursuant to Section 2 -10 of the South Bend Municipal Code, the following annual Report to the <br />Information and Technology Committee is filed which briefly highlights some of the activities and <br />projects which took place this calendar year. <br />Duties: The Informational and Technology Committee is charged with "overseeing the various <br />activities of the City's information technologies so that all computer systems, websites, and related <br />technologies are maintained and upgraded so as to remain competitive and up -to -date with currently <br />industry standards" pursuant to Section 2 -10 of the South Bend Municipal Code. <br />Committee Members: There were four (4) members on this Committee this year: Council <br />President Tim Scott served as the Chair; Gavin Ferlic served as Vice - Chair; Dr. Dave Varner and <br />Karen White served as members. We did not have any citizen members on this Committee, in 2016. <br />Meetings and Activities: To date there have been three (3) committee meetings held. Some of the <br />topics addressed included: <br />The March 14th meeting was the Organizational meeting to discuss future plans of the IT <br />committee; which included ideas for legal electronic signatures for council members; and legally <br />filing of bills and resolutions. Also discussed was iPad training for all council members. The <br />committee also discussed looking at other second class cities use of technology for better <br />transparency. <br />The April 11th IT committee meeting discussed the reasoning for repealing Bill No 18 -16 - <br />Addressing Social Media and Networking Policy for Council Members. In light of council member <br />changes, there did not seem to be a reason for the ordinance and also to avoid a continuing law suit. <br />All agreed. The Committee sent the repeal to the full council favorably; there was no comment for <br />or against. The repeal passed later that night at full Council. <br />The April 15th IT Committee meeting was iPad training for council members Dr. Dave Varner and <br />Jo Broden were in attendance. The items covered were: iPad basics, device updates, how to use <br />iAnnotate App, iPad Mail; iPad Drop Box; Apple TV; Wireless Connections and all other questions. <br />227 W.
