L <br />December 2j, 1968 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety met at 10:00 A.M. on <br />December 23, 1968, with Lloyd S. Taylor and James A. Bickel present. <br />OPEN BIDS FOR INSTALLATION OF TRAFFIC SIGNALS <br />This being the date set for receiving bids for the installation of traffic signals <br />at the following intersections: <br />1. Ireland and York <br />2. Ewing and Main <br />3. Ironwood and Pleasant <br />4. Olive and Washington <br />5. Portage, Angela and Diamond <br />Vhe Clerk tendered proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County <br />News on December 13 and December 20, 1968, which were read and found to be proper. <br />The bid of the Welsbach Corporation, 445 N. Holmes Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana, <br />46222, being the only bid received, was opened. Non collusion affidavit was found <br />to be proper. Bid was accompanied by bid bond in the amount of 10% of the total <br />bid and together with bidder's financial statement, which were found to be sufficient. <br />Said bid being as follows: <br />1. Ireland and York ----------------- $10,472.40 <br />2. Ewing and Main ------------------ 5 857.35 <br />3. Ironwood and Pleasant ------------ 5,984.95 <br />4. Olive and Washington ------------ 9,487.50 <br />5. Portage, Angela and Diamond------- 9,213.75 <br />a total of-------------------$41,015.95 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the bid was taken under advisement with <br />contract to be awarded at a later date. <br />APPLICATIONS - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />The applications of Johnny L. Barclay and <br />South Bend Fire Department were filed with <br />Department for further processing. <br />APPLICATIONS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Ancil Roger Ridner for appointment to the <br />the Board and referred to the Personnel <br />The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Police Department were <br />received by the Board and referred to Personnel Department for further processing: <br />Joe E. Duke <br />Daniel Charles Dutrieux <br />Lorenzo Hill <br />David Lee Maurer <br />APPLICATIONS APPROVED - SPECIAL POLICE OFFICERS <br />Applications for appointment as special police officers were approved by the Board <br />and referred to the Police Department for further processing, as follows: <br />Employed by Bendix Corporation: William L. Barnhardt, Bill Shively, John <br />J. Walsh, Donald Leo Webb, Alex Williamson. <br />Employed by the South Bend Street Department: Marvin Oster. <br />REQUEST FOR TRANSFER OF FUNDS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the request <br />of Chief of Police Thomas McNaughton for the transfer of funds in the amount of <br />$7,249.00 from Account P-727 (radio•.equipment) to Account P-722 (motor Equipment). <br />And the matter is referred to the City Attorney for the preparation of a resolution <br />for theconsideration of the Common Council. Said request being made for the reason <br />that bids on 48 police cars amounted to $40,249.00 while only $33,000.00 was <br />budgeted. <br />1 <br />
