1322 <br />April 1, 1968. <br />The Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 10:00 A.M. on April 1, 1968, <br />with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed <br />and approved. <br />APPLICATIONS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The following applications for employment with the Police Department were <br />filed and referred to the Personnel Director for processing: <br />James Thomas DeRue <br />William Lee Kline <br />APPLICATION - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Dennis Lee Severns <br />Edward Joseph Sherrick <br />The application of Joseph Lee Cherry for employment with the Fire Department <br />was filed and referred to the Personnel Director for processing. <br />REQUEST FOR MOTORCYCLE ESCORT - GRAND FLORAL PARADE, BENTON HARBOR, MICH. <br />The request of Chief of Police McNaughton for permission to send two <br />motorcycle officers to assist in the escort for the "Key to the Cities <br />Tour" and the Grand Floral Parade on 5/18/68, St. Joseph and Benton.Narbor, <br />Michigan, granted. <br />REQUEST OF POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR TRANSFER OF FUNDS <br />The request of Chief McNaughton for the transfer of funds from Account P-722 <br />(motor equipment) to Account P-37 (other supplies) in the amount of $1200.00 <br />and for the transfer of $600.00 from Account P-722 (motor equipment) to <br />Account P-7,25 (office equipment) was approved, and referred to the City <br />Attorney for the preparation of proper resolution for such transfer. <br />UNIFORMS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Police Chief McNaughton submitted specifications for uniforms and uniform <br />equipment for the Police Department, and asked permission to advertise for <br />bids thereon. On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the request was <br />approved by the Board, and the Clerk was instructed to advertise for bids <br />on April 5 and April 12, to be opened on April 15, 1968. <br />UNIFORMS - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Fire Chief McHenry appeared before the Board and requested permission to <br />advertise for bids for clothing for the Fire Department for a period of one <br />year, commencing May 1, 1968. Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, <br />the request was approved by the Board, and the Clerk was instructed to ad- <br />vertise for bids on April 5 and April 12, to be opened on April 15, 1968. <br />RETIREMENT - FIRE DEPARTMENT - ALOYSIUS WEISEL <br />The application and declaration for retirement from the Fire Department by <br />Aloysius Weisel, appointed 1/20/48, retirement date 4/4/68, having served <br />20 years and two months, was approved by the Board. <br />PETITION FOR STREET LIGHT - CORPUS CHR IST I DRIVE <br />The petition of Rev. Joseph Horvath, the Sisters of Corpus Christi School and <br />18 others, for a street light at the north end of Corpus Christi Drive and at <br />the west side of the School, where the asphalt meets the concrete pavement of <br />Tomahawk Drive, was filed and referred to the traffic engineer for investi- <br />gation and recommendation. <br />PETITION FOR NIGHT LIGHTS - CEMETERY DEPARTMENT <br />Clifton P. Engle, Sexton of City Cemetery, requests permission to have the <br />Indiana & Michigan Electric Company install two night lights at strategic <br />points on the north side of the buildings used as storage for cemetery supplies <br />1 <br />
