March 11, 1968 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:40 A.M. on March 11, 1968, with all members present. Minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. POLICE SUSPENSION - EDWARD DECRAENE Officer Edward DeCraene appeared before the Board, in person and by his.attorney, F. Jay Nimtz, to answer charges filed against him on February 29, '1968, for violation of Regulation 4.18 of the General Rules and Regulations of the Police Department of South Bend. After presenting his defense and upon due consideration of the matter by the Board, motion was made, seconded and unanimously carried to accept the admission of Officer DeCraene to the charge in 'paragraph (a) of Count I of such charge and to strike from the record paragraph (b) of Count I of such charge. It was further moved, seconded and carried that 4:00 P.M. March 11, 1968, be set as the time for administering punishment, and Officer DeCraene was requested to be present. POLICE SUSPENSION - JOSEPH MARKOVICH Officer Jos4,,°Mark6v4ch appeared before the Board, in person and by his attorney, F. Jay Nimtz, to answer charges filed against him on February 29, 1968, for violation of Regulation 4.18 of the General Rules and Regulations of the Police Department of South Bend. After presenting his defense and upon due consideration of the matter by the Board, motion was made, seconded and unanimously carried to accept the admission of Officer Markovich to the charge in paragraph (a) of Count I of such charge and to strike from the record paragraph (b) of Count I of such charge. It was further moved, seconded and carried that 4i00 P.M., March 11, 1968, be set as the time for administering punishment, and Officer Markovich was re- quested to be present. REQUEST FOR RETIREMENT FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT - EDWARD J. DUDZINSKI Having completed 20 years of service with the South Bend Police Department as of 10/14/67, Edward J.'Dudzinski requests to be placed on pension effective 3/22/68. Upon the approval of Chief McNaughton and due con- sideration by the Board, motion was made, seconded and carried to accept the resignation of Officer Dudzinski and to grant his request to be placed on pension effective 3/22/68. REQUEST FOR PERMISSION TO ATTEND MARINE CORPS RESERVE SUMMER CAMP - J. A. FLORKOWSKI POLICE DEPT. Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, the request of Officer J. A. Florkowski for permission to attend the Marine Corps Reserve Summer Camp from 3/4/68 to 4/7/68 was granted. REQUEST TO ATTEND FIRE DEPARTMENT INSTRUCTORS' CONFERENCE - DALE FORTIN AND WILLIAM SCHMIDT Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, the request of Fire Chief Dale Fortin and Lt. William Schmidt to attend the Fire Department Conference in Memphis, Tennessee from 3/19/68 to 3/22/68, was granted. REQUEST TO TRANSFER FUNDS - FIRE DEPARTMENT Fire Chief McHenry requests permission to transfer $350.00 from Account No. Q-726 (other equipment) to Account No. Q-722 (motor equipment) in order to purchase a 1968 Chevrolet 3/4 ton cab and chassis to be used for mounting Fire Depart- ment boats and motors. Upon due consideration, motion was made, seconded and carried, request was granted. The matter was referred to the city attorney for the preparation of a resolution for presentation to the Common Council for its consideration.
