March 11, 1968 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:40 A.M. <br />on March 11, 1968, with all members present. Minutes of the previous meeting <br />were reviewed and approved. <br />POLICE SUSPENSION - EDWARD DECRAENE <br />Officer Edward DeCraene appeared before the Board, in person and by his.attorney, <br />F. Jay Nimtz, to answer charges filed against him on February 29, '1968, for <br />violation of Regulation 4.18 of the General Rules and Regulations of the Police <br />Department of South Bend. After presenting his defense and upon due consideration <br />of the matter by the Board, motion was made, seconded and unanimously carried <br />to accept the admission of Officer DeCraene to the charge in 'paragraph (a) of <br />Count I of such charge and to strike from the record paragraph (b) of Count <br />I of such charge. It was further moved, seconded and carried that 4:00 P.M. <br />March 11, 1968, be set as the time for administering punishment, and <br />Officer DeCraene was requested to be present. <br />POLICE SUSPENSION - JOSEPH MARKOVICH <br />Officer Jos4,,°Mark6v4ch appeared before the Board, in person and by his <br />attorney, F. Jay Nimtz, to answer charges filed against him on February 29, <br />1968, for violation of Regulation 4.18 of the General Rules and Regulations <br />of the Police Department of South Bend. After presenting his defense <br />and upon due consideration of the matter by the Board, motion was made, <br />seconded and unanimously carried to accept the admission of Officer <br />Markovich to the charge in paragraph (a) of Count I of such charge and to <br />strike from the record paragraph (b) of Count I of such charge. It was <br />further moved, seconded and carried that 4i00 P.M., March 11, 1968, be set <br />as the time for administering punishment, and Officer Markovich was re- <br />quested to be present. <br />REQUEST FOR RETIREMENT FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT - EDWARD J. DUDZINSKI <br />Having completed 20 years of service with the South Bend Police Department <br />as of 10/14/67, Edward J.'Dudzinski requests to be placed on pension <br />effective 3/22/68. Upon the approval of Chief McNaughton and due con- <br />sideration by the Board, motion was made, seconded and carried to accept <br />the resignation of Officer Dudzinski and to grant his request to be <br />placed on pension effective 3/22/68. <br />REQUEST FOR PERMISSION TO ATTEND MARINE CORPS RESERVE SUMMER CAMP - <br />J. A. FLORKOWSKI POLICE DEPT. <br />Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, the request of Officer J. A. <br />Florkowski for permission to attend the Marine Corps Reserve Summer Camp <br />from 3/4/68 to 4/7/68 was granted. <br />REQUEST TO ATTEND FIRE DEPARTMENT INSTRUCTORS' CONFERENCE - DALE FORTIN <br />AND WILLIAM SCHMIDT <br />Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, the request of Fire Chief <br />Dale Fortin and Lt. William Schmidt to attend the Fire Department Conference <br />in Memphis, Tennessee from 3/19/68 to 3/22/68, was granted. <br />REQUEST TO TRANSFER FUNDS - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Fire Chief McHenry requests permission to transfer $350.00 from Account No. Q-726 <br />(other equipment) to Account No. Q-722 (motor equipment) in order to purchase <br />a 1968 Chevrolet 3/4 ton cab and chassis to be used for mounting Fire Depart- <br />ment boats and motors. Upon due consideration, motion was made, seconded <br />and carried, request was granted. The matter was referred to the city <br />attorney for the preparation of a resolution for presentation to the Common <br />Council for its consideration. <br />APPLICATIONS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The following applications for employment with the Police Department were <br />received and filed: <br />Douglas Eugene Parmley <br />Gloria Fay Klein <br />APPLICATION - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Charles Theodore Hurley, Jr. <br />Barry Lee Barrett <br />The application for employment with the F ire Department of John Byron Floyd <br />was received and filed. <br />1 <br />L <br />J <br />
