<br />The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was opened at 10:00
<br />A. M with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read
<br />and approved.
<br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - RETIREMENT (Ray Maxson)
<br />K8CyzWn_d-D.axson, having been with e outh Bend Police Department since
<br />September 10, 1945, submitted his resignation to the Board, and it having been
<br />det4rmined by the Board that he is eligible for such retirement, it is so
<br />approved and same is effective on September 12, 1966.
<br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - RETIREMENT - SGT CRAWFORD
<br />John E. Crawford, police detective sergeant, is requesting to be retired from the
<br />South Bend Police Department effective September 9, 1966, and it appearing that said
<br />officer has been with the department continuously since March 9, 1942, which is
<br />24r years, 6 months and four days, said resignation and entering upon pension roll
<br />is hereby accepted on the date specified.
<br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - RESIGNATION - OFF. T. WROBLEWSKI
<br />Office T. Wroblewski having tendered to the Board of Safety as a member of the
<br />�. Police. Department and requested that the date of his resignation be effective
<br />all September 14, 1966, same is hereby accepted and granted.

<br />POLICE DEPARTMENT PRCtU[OTIONS
<br />V Irvin C. Hampton, Chief of Police, having this date submitted to the Board of
<br />Public Works and Safety his recommendationfor the Promotion of Earl Dhoore,
<br />Norbert Turczynski and Edward Friend from the present rank of patrolman to
<br />rank of Sergeants, and the Board being duly, advised on the premises, now
<br />oxders_:that said officers are so promoted pursuant to the request of Irvin
<br />C. Hampton, Police Chief, said promotion being effective August 16, 1966.
<br />FIRE CHIEF - REQUEST
<br />Cecil McHenry, Fire Chief, submitted a request to attend the 93rd Annual Con=
<br />ference of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, in Boston, Massachusetts,
<br />August 20 through August 25.
<br />The Board approved the preceding request.
<br />ICE DEPARTMENT- TRANSFER OF FUNDS
<br />Irvin C. Hampton, Police Chief, requested a transfer of funds from P-7 27, Radio
<br />Equipment to P-722, Motor Equipment in the amount of $2,000.00. Also a transfer
<br />of funds in the amount of $4,000.00 from P-727, Radio Equipment to P 725, Office
<br />Equipment.
<br />The preceding request was approved and a copy given to Mr. James Bieke� City
<br />Controller.
<br />ELECTRIC AL DEPARTMENT - REQUEST FOR CABLE,
<br />Mr. Eugene Radecki, Electrical Inspector, requested the Board to advertise for
<br />addition cable needed for the Central Services Building. The amount of cable
<br />needed will be 7,000 feet and must be 1,000 feet to a reel. The approximate cost
<br />of the cable will be $1,300.00 per thousand feet, total amount $9,1000.00 The
<br />cable should be designed around DEA-19-1-1962 specifications. This amount of cable
<br />should be sufficient to complete the move of the Fire Alarm Building.
<br />The preceding specifications will be in the Board of Works office, and advertised
<br />for bids on August 19, August 26, and bids will be taken on August 29.
<br />TRAFFIC DIRECTOR - RECCIUQuIENDATION NO, WILLIAM STREET
<br />Mr. Clem F. Hazinski, Traffic Director, has recommended in order to provide for
<br />an extra lane for inbound traffic in the 300 block of No. William St. that parking
<br />on the west side of that street (between Lincoln way West and Madison) be pro-
<br />hibited between 6:00 A. M. and 9:00 A. M. Monday through Saturday.
<br />Also, in order to provide turning radius for trucks, it is recommended that parking
<br />be prohibited on the east aide of the 300 block of No. Williams St. from the north
<br />curb line of Lincoln Way West to a point 106 feet to the north. This would
<br />eliminate two parking places.
<br />The Board approved the preceding recommendation.
